Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in the services of Chelsea star Conor Gallagher who seeks Champions League football.
The North London club have a long-standing interest in the services of Conor Gallagher. They have been linked with him since the start of the transfer window and while we are heading into the final weeks, Tottenham are still keen on signing the Chelsea academy graduate but according to a report from talkSPORT, Gallagher is keen on playing Champions League football which makes things complicated by Spurs.
The 24-year-old was one of the standout performers for Chelsea last season. He was involved in 37 out of their 38 league games and ended the season with 16 goal contributions (7 goals, 9 assists) across competitions. Despite his heroics, he might not have a future at Stamford Bridge as they are ready to cash in on him with his contract running out in 12 months.
Chelsea were initially looking to raise around £50 million from his sale but with the player rejecting a second renewal offer on Wednesday, their demands have gone down significantly. They have accepted a £33 million bid (package worth £37.9 million) from Atletico Madrid who will now look to convince the player about a move to Madrid. But, it is not going to be easy as he has already turned down an opportunity to play for Aston Villa.
Since the player hasn’t given the green light to the move, Tottenham are still in the mix as people at the club consider him an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system.
With Pierre-Emile Højbjerg no longer at the club, Gallagher could just be the perfect signing for them. But, they do have a major roadblock as the player is reluctant to join a rival club and is keen on playing in the Champions League. Atletico Madrid could be an ideal destination for the 24-year-old but they are yet to hold talks with the player and Spurs need to hurry if they do not want to miss out on him.
