Tottenham are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign the South American forward Alejo Veliz.
A report from Football Insider claims that the 19-year-old attacker is set to complete his move to the North London club after Tottenham agreed on a deal worth around £12.9 million for him. A ‘medical is set to take place’ soon.
There have been rumours that the player could return on loan to his current club Rosario Central after signing with Tottenham.
The 19-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and Spurs might not be able to provide him with that opportunity.
Spurs need to bring an attacking quality this summer and signing an understudy to Harry Kane could prove to be a wise decision.
That said, the England international has been linked with a move away from the club and Bayern Munich are hoping to secure his services. Veliz is certainly not ready to replace a player of Harry Kane’s calibre yet, and the 19-year-old will be a long-term prospect for the club.
Spurs must prioritise his development and he needs to play more often. Returning to Rosario Central would be ideal for the youngster.
The reported £12.9 million price could prove to be a bargain if he manages to fulfil his potential with the Premier League club in the coming seasons.
Tottenham have been quite active in the transfer market so far and they are thought to be closing in on the Dutch defender Micky van de Ven as well.
