Tottenham identify 23-year-old as January target after transfer meeting this week

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

A report from Daily Mail claims that the 23-year-old central defender has been identified as a January target after a transfer meeting held at the North London club this week.

Tottenham will now have to plan for the January transfer window especially after their recent injury blows. Summer signing Micky Van de Ven is now sidelined for several weeks with a hamstring injury and Spurs must look to bring in a quality defender in January.

Guehi has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the country and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Tottenham. The former Chelsea defender has been linked with a move away from Selhurst Park for months and it remains to be seen whether the Eagles are prepared to sanction his departure midway through the season.

He will want to establish himself as a regular starter for the England national team and joining a big club like Tottenham will boost his chances. Furthermore, he will want to compete at the highest level and the opportunity to move to Tottenham will be an attractive proposition for the player.

However, he is highly rated at Crystal Palace and the Eagles could demand a premium for him. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are prepared to pay a substantial amount of money in order to secure his signature during the January transfer window.
