Tottenham hopes of landing top-class defensive target take a hit

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham have been dealt a blow in their bid to land Kalidou Koulibaly in the next transfer window following reports that the defender isn’t interested in joining them.

Koulibaly is ready to finally leave Napoli in the summer as he and the club have agreed that the time is right for him to leave, reports Italian media outlet CalcioMercato.

The report claims that the 28-year-old has been the long-term target of several top European sides and his desire to leave Naples will spark a scramble for his signature.

One team that is very interested in the defender is Tottenham, however, the report from CalcioMercato has dashed their hopes by claiming that the defender would only consider joining a team in the Champions League.

Tottenham haven’t had the best of seasons as they are currently a long way off a European spot.

There are a lot of uncertainties concerning the restart of this campaign and several scenarios that have been touted for the end of this season has placed them outside the European places.

If Spurs can get into the top four at the end of this season, then they might be able to compete for his signature, otherwise, if the report is to be believed, he would rather move to teams like Manchester United or Liverpool who apparently also want to sign him.

What an idiot I am. I’ve just had his name put on my shirt, as I thought this was a dead cert. I’ll have to throw it in the drawer with my Coutinho, Bale, Dybala, Fernandez and Grealish shirts from last season.

Our hopes took a blow the day Daniel Levy was born. Spurs in for Koulibaly? spare me.

Why are we ever linked to players like this, whose price I believe is around 75M.No way would Levy ever think of paying that for a player. It’s time we knew our place.

Well I’m shocked, he’d rather move to Manchester United or Liverpool, unbelievable.
