Tottenham ‘have taken information’ regarding South American who could cost €35m

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Roma defender Roger Ibanez.

The 24-year-old central defender has been an important player for Roma and the Italian outfit will consider selling him for offers in excess of €35 million.

According to a report from Siamolaroma, Tottenham ‘have taken information’ regarding the defender in recent months and it will be interesting to see if they follow up on their interest with a concrete proposal to sign the player.

It is no secret that they need to bring in defensive reinforcements, and Ibanez could prove to be a quality partner for Cristian Romero.

The Brazilian has showcased his quality in the Italian league and he is good enough to make his mark in the Premier League as well.

Tottenham shipped 63 goals in the league last season and they will have to improve in the department if they want to compete with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle next season. They will be desperate to get back into the top four and secure Champions League qualification.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier were quite underwhelming last season and Tottenham missed out on a top four finish. The absence of Champions League football has come as a blow to their finances, and they will struggle to attract elite players as well.

It remains to be seen whether the newly appointed Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou can bring in the necessary reinforcements and shore up his defensive unit before the transfer window closes.
