Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for the Real Sociedad star Brais Mendez.
A report from the Spanish publication Sport claims that the North London club have a ‘strong interest’ in signing the 26-year-old playmaker who is regarded as ‘pure talent’.
Mendez has been a key player for Real Sociedad, scoring five goals and picking up five assists across 14 matches this season. The Spaniard is at the peak of his career and he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league.
He has the technical attributes to succeed in the Premier League as well but his release clause could prove to be a bit of a problem for Tottenham. Apparently, the midfielder has a €60 million release in his contract and the Spanish outfit are unlikely to sell him for less.
He has a long-term contract with them until the summer of 2028 and any club hoping to sign him will have to trigger his exit clause. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are prepared to pay that kind of money for him, especially after signing James Maddison at the start of the season.
The England international operates in a similar role, although Mendez is versatile enough to operate as the central midfielder as well as the number ten. There is no doubt that Tottenham could use more depth in the midfield and adding more creativity and control to the side could be a wise decision.
