Tottenham “have inquired” about €45m rated top class defender – also interested in Manchester City star

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing Villarreal’s Pau Torres to strengthen their defense.

According to journalist Steve Kay, Spurs have already inquired about the 26-year-old centre-back, who is highly rated and considered a world-class defender by many in Europe.

He told Football Transfers:

“Tottenham have been looking for a young, versatile defender for quite a while now, and they have recently inquired about Aymeric Laporte and Pau Torres.”

Torres’ contract with Villarreal expires in 2024, and the Spanish club could be forced to cash in on him this summer for a fee of around €45m.

Tottenham’s defensive struggles have been well documented, with Davinson Sanchez failing to live up to expectations and loanee Lenglet failing to make a significant impact as well. He is set to return to Barcelona once his loan ends.

Cristian Romero has perhaps been the only standout defender for Spurs.

Antonio Conte was keen to bring in a proven world-class defender last summer, which didn’t happen.

Torres was linked with Tottenham last summer, and there were rumors that the club was trying to use Giovani Lo Celso as a bargaining chip to secure his services.

With the need for a quality centre-back still paramount, Spurs may look to reignite their interest in Torres this summer.

However, Spurs may not the only club interested in Torres, with other top European teams also keeping tabs on the Spaniard. If Spurs want to secure his signature, they may have to move quickly before the competition heats up.
