Tottenham are ramping up their transfer efforts as the January window approaches its final hours, with a focus on strengthening their defensive lineup amid a worsening injury crisis.
The recent knee injury to Radu Dragusin, expected to keep him sidelined for an extended period, has left Spurs urgently seeking reinforcements. One of their primary targets is Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X, Tottenham and Chelsea have reached an agreement for a loan deal involving Disasi. The arrangement reportedly includes a loan fee but does not feature a purchase option.
However, securing Disasi’s services has hit a snag, as the player is said to have turned down Spurs’ offer, having already agreed personal terms with Aston Villa. This decision complicates matters for Tottenham, particularly since Chelsea are reportedly unwilling to negotiate with Villa due to their competition for European qualification.
Disasi’s professional journey began at Paris FC before moving to Reims, where his performances caught the attention of AS Monaco. He joined Monaco on a five-year contract in 2020 and made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut against his former club.
In August 2023, Disasi signed a six-year deal with Chelsea for a reported fee of €45 million. The 26-year-old centre-back made an impressive debut for the Blues, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
This season, he has made 17 appearances across all competitions, contributing two goals and two assists. Although his Premier League starts have been limited, Disasi has been a consistent figure in Chelsea’s European and cup campaigns.
Should Tottenham manage to convince Disasi to join, his arrival would offer a crucial boost to Ange Postecoglou’s defensive options. As Spurs navigate a challenging season marked by injuries, the addition of an experienced and versatile defender like Disasi could be pivotal.
