Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo Mandava during the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old Mozambique International will be a free agent in August, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get the deal done. They could use more depth in the defensive unit, and the experienced La Liga player would be the ideal acquisition.

According to Africafoot, Crystal Palace are keen on the player as well.

Spurs need depth in the left-back department

Signing someone of his quality and experience on a free transfer would be a major bargain as well. He could help him improve defensively, and he could be the ideal mentor for Destiny Udogie.

The young Italian left-back has been inconsistent this past season, and Tottenham could use more quality in that area of the pitch. Mandava might be a short-term acquisition for the club, but he could take some pressure off the young Italian defender and allow Tottenham to rotate the youngster more often.

The opportunity to play in the Premier League will be quite exciting for the 31-year-old at this stage of his career. He will look to prove himself in English football. He has been an important player for Atletico Madrid, and he has played over a hundred games for them.

It will be interesting to see if Tottenham come forward with an approach for the defender in the coming weeks. They have secured Champions League qualification for the next season, and they will be an attractive destination for top players. The defender will certainly fancy the opportunity to play for them next season.

They were quite disappointing in the league last season, and Tottenham will look to bounce back strongly. Signing players with more quality and experience would be a wise decision. On a free transfer, Mandava would be a no-brainer signing for them.
