Guglielmo Vicario, the Tottenham goalkeeper on loan at Juventus, could be sold permanently if the Italian club follows through on its reported plan to trigger an £8.5m option.
The claim comes from Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by CalcioMercato.it. The report says Juventus have made up their mind to exercise the option at the end of the season, with Vicario reportedly set to sign a three-year contract through 2030 if the move goes ahead.
Juventus have been convinced quickly
Vicario joined Juventus on a season-long loan, with the £8.5m option giving the Serie A side a route to make the move permanent. The report says it took five matches for the club’s decision-makers to be convinced he could become their number one.
That is a swift change of view, even by the standards of a club that does not tend to wait long before deciding what it wants. Vicario has made a bright start in Turin, and his Juventus loan now appears to have a plausible permanent ending.
His departure from Tottenham followed a difficult final season, when he lost the number-one shirt to Antonin Kinsky. Vicario later said that some dynamics at Spurs had not aligned, while describing his three years in North London as important to his development.
A potential fee, not money in the bank
If Juventus activate the option, Tottenham could receive £8.5m for a goalkeeper who was no longer first choice. That would give the club a useful future fee, but the report is not confirmation that the option has been exercised, and there is no basis here to claim the money is already secured or earmarked for a particular signing.
There is a straightforward football logic to the arrangement: Vicario gets a fresh start in familiar surroundings, while Tottenham can plan beyond a player whose place had gone to Kinsky.
Buffon backs the goalkeeper
Juventus and Italy great Gianluigi Buffon has praised Vicario, calling him a winner and suggesting his difficult final season at Spurs should be viewed in the context of the team’s problems.

For now, the reported plan remains just that: a reported plan. Juventus are said to want to trigger the £8.5m option at season’s end, but neither club has officially confirmed a permanent transfer.
