Tottenham Hotspur are looking to improve their defensive options with the signing of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
According to a report from Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur want to sign two defenders at the end of the season and they have identified the 22-year-old Premier League ace as a potential target.
Guehi has been outstanding for Crystal Palace since joining the club and he is undoubtedly one of the best young defenders in the league. The player has managed to force his way into the England setup as well and he’s likely to be a key player for club and country over the next few years.
The report from Daily Mail claims that Colombian defender Davinson Sanchez’s future at Tottenham is in doubt and Clement Lenglet is set to return to his parent club upon the expiry of his loan deal.
Therefore the London club will look to dip into the transfer market for new defenders at the end of the season.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham decide to follow up on their interest with the concrete bid for Guehi in the coming months. The 22-year-old is likely to be attracted to the idea of playing for a top club and Tottenham might be able to provide him with Champions League football next season.
Furthermore, he will have more chances of challenging for trophies while playing under Antonio Conte as compared to Palace.
The report further claims that any bids in excess of £45m could tempt the Eagles to sell the player at the end of the season.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham are willing to spend that kind of money on the 22-year-old defender at the end of the season.
Guehi is already well-settled in the Premier League and he could make an immediate impact at Tottenham next season. Although he’s not worth the reported fee right now, he has the potential to justify the outlay in the long run.
The former Chelsea player could prove to be an excellent long-term investment for Tottenham and he could sort out their defensive unit for the foreseeable future.
