Tottenham expected to make their move ‘quite late’ for 23-year-old target

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and they have been tipped to make a late move for him this month.

According to Paul Brown from Give Me Sport, Tottenham are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old and they could look to test Chelsea’s resolve with a late offer for the midfielder. It will be interesting to see if the Blues are prepared to cash in on the player late on in the window.

Gallagher has been an important player for them this season and he has captained them multiple times. Replacing him this late in the window could prove to be very difficult.

Paul Brown claims that Chelsea have a steep valuation of the player and Spurs are unlikely to send in a lucrative offer. However, they are still expected to try for him.

“Spurs have been interested in Gallagher for a long time, but they just think the price is too high. I would still expect Daniel Levy to have a little nibble before the end of the window, but probably quite late in the day just to test, and it will be a real test of Chelsea’s business plan if Spurs were to come in with a semi-decent offer. But I don’t think it’s a case of, if we don’t get Gallagher we must get someone else. I think Spurs will try for Gallagher but not in any major way before the end of the window. If they don’t get him, they will be happy to stick with what they’ve got.”

The North London outfit have done well to improve their attack and defence with the signings of Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin this month. If they can bring in a quality central midfielder before the window closes, it will have been a hugely successful window for them.

Spurs need more depth in their midfield and Gallagher will add defensive cover, drive and pressing ability to the side. On paper, he seems like the ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s high-intensity attacking system. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
