Tottenham expected to activate £17m option and sign 57-cap international this summer

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig during the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has been a useful player for the North London club so far and he has picked up two assists in four Premier League appearances.

The German has previously played in the Premier League with Chelsea, but he had an underwhelming spell with the Blues. It seems that he is thriving in Tottenham’s free free-flowing attacking system and he will look to build on his recent performances and finish the season strongly.

According to a report from German publication SportBILD (h/t SportWitness), RB Leipzig expect the Premier League club to sign the German international permanently at the end of the season.

Tottenham have an option to sign the player permanently for a fee of around £17 million and Leipzig expect them to trigger the buyout.

The 57-cap German international seems to be settling into life at Tottenham with ease and it remains to be seen whether he can continue to impress the club hierarchy with his performances in the coming weeks.

There is no doubt that he can be a very useful player for Tottenham and he will add goals and creativity in the final third. The 27-year-old is versatile enough to play anywhere across the front three and Tottenham need players like him in order to compete across multiple tournaments.

Werner’s versatility could prove to be very useful during injuries and rotation. The German international does not have a future at RB Leipzig and he will be keen on a permanent exit from the club. Joining Tottenham for the long-term might be an appealing option for him.
