Chelsea star Conor Gallagher has been a priority target for Spurs since last year, but the move has yet to materialise, despite two transfer windows passing.
Tottenham have had two successful transfer windows under Ange Postecoglou, signing several players who have gone on to make an instant impact this season.
However, they have not been able to sign one particular target who they have been after since the summer.
But Spurs have not given up their pursuit as according to a recent update from Football Insider, Spurs are considering tabling an early bid for the Englishman for a potential summer move.
Tottenham preparing early summer bid for Gallagher
The report claims that Spurs are set to make a ‘lowball’ offer to their rivals Chelsea, with an initial bid expected to be between £30-£40 million.
It adds that Tottenham are aware of their rivals’ need to raise funds in order to adhere with the Financial Fair Play (FFP) compliance, and are expected to take advantage of the situation to drive a hard bargain.
With Gallagher’s contract with the Blues has less than 12 months remaining, scheduled to end in June of the following year and no contract extension planned, the attacking midfielder would be free to enter negotiations with interested suitors in the summer.
Mauricio Pochettino could lose Gallagher against his wishes
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino considers the player a crucial part of his squad. There were even reports of the Argentine manager working behind the scenes to get the club to offer the 24-year-old a new contract to ensure his stay at Stamford Bridge.
The Cobham academy graduate has consistently been included in Pochettino’s starting line up, featuring in the starting XI for all 26 Premier League games he has been available this season. scoring two goals and assisting 5.
It will be intriguing to see how the transfer saga unfolds between two London clubs, a storyline that has been ongoing since last summer. But it certainly feels like Spurs are getting closer to getting their man.
