Tottenham are still dealing with ongoing injury troubles that are adding to the club’s challenges, particularly as they navigate through an inconsistent season.
The recent shock 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town, who had not won a league win before this match, only emphasised the difficulties Spurs face.
To make things worse, two more players appeared to pick up injury problems during the game – midfielder Pape Matar Sarr and striker Dominic Solanke.
Manager Ange Postecoglou offered updates on both the players after the game.
Sarr, a key presence in the midfield, was substituted in the second half due to a knock. Postecoglou shared some optimism, suggesting that Sarr’s injury may not be too serious and that a quick recovery is possible.
Striker Dominic Solanke also became a concern after jarring his knee in the same match. Although he continued to play until the final whistle, Postecoglou is maintaining a cautious outlook.
He pointed out that while Solanke’s knee was sore, the player’s determination to stay on the field was reassuring, raising hopes that the injury may not be significant.
Postecoglou said (as quoted by The Standard):
“I think Pape is all right. He just got a bit of a knock.
“Dom [Solanke] jarred his knee, it was pretty sore but he wanted to continue. Hopefully it is nothing serious.”
Growing injury concerns of Tottenham
These new setbacks come at a time when Tottenham are already coping with a string of player absences. Central defender Micky van de Ven has been sidelined with a hamstring injury during Spurs’ 2-1 Carabao Cup win over Manchester City last month. He is expected to return post-international break.
Adding to the list, academy prospect Mikey Moore and summer recruit Wilson Odobert continues to be unavailable, with him already missing five games due to a thigh injury. Richarlison, who has struggled with recurring issues all season, also picked up another injury which will keep him out for a long period.
As Spurs approach the international break, Postecoglou hopes for a positive update on the injury front. Reintegrating key players like Sarr and Solanke will be essential for Tottenham to regain form and push for more stable performances in the Premier League and other competitions.
