Tottenham don’t need this old-timer: Multiple Premier League winner is better suited to Arsenal

By Bruce Grove -

The name Willian has been popping up a lot in regard to a potential move to Tottenham, however, we are not the only club being consistently linked with the soon to be 32-year-old.

I am able to put aside what Willian did prior to signing for Chelsea, he made a career decision to join a club that, at that time, offered more opportunities to win silverware and most probably earn a higher wage.

But now, he is past his best, nowhere near the same player he once was and no longer attractive enough for Chelsea to offer him a contract extension that he is demanding.

So, why should Tottenham be interested in a player basically being discarded by Chelsea, that is not an upgrade on what we already have and would only want to sign for that one final big payday?

The rumours are claiming that Arsenal is very interested in signing the Brazilian, well, they are welcome to him, he is their sort of player, a reject from a fellow top-six side.

Arsenal has a track record of signing used up Chelsea players, William Gallas, Petr Cech, and David Luiz to name just a few, why not another one?

Tottenham should not ever consider taking on any player that is the opposite of an upgrade, that is what Arsenal do, and they are welcome to him.

In fact, if Arsenal does stay true to form they will sign Willian and send Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the other way.

We have a fine history of signing players who are not an upgrade on what we had.Aurier is the obvious most recent one.I’m inclined to agree with Cowspurs that he would be an upgrade on Lamela,at least his appearance figure would reach double figures. However what he did to us should discount him.

This article doesn’t make me feel any better about us signing Gallas after he’d been discarded by Chelsea and Arsenal

Willian is an upgrade on Lamela. Can’t see Spurs paying his wages, he’ll want at least £200k a week being on a free.
