Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in recent months.
They wanted to sign the midfielder during the January transfer window, but a move did not materialise. A report from Daily Mail claims that Tottenham are monitoring his situation closely with a view to launching a move in the summer now.
Gallagher has established himself as a player for Chelsea and he has captained them multiple times this season. He is undoubtedly one of the best young midfielders in the league right now and Tottenham would do well to secure his services.
Tottenham will need to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has fallen down the pecking order at the north London club and Gallagher would be a better fit for their style of play. His hard-working style and pressing ability would be the ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s system.
However, the report adds that the 24-year-old midfielder is determined to stay at Chelsea and he is not keen on an exit any time soon. Gallagher is a boyhood Chelsea fan and he wants to continue at Stamford Bridge.
It will be interesting to see if Chelsea decide to force him out of the club in the summer. They need to raise funds in order to bring in their own signings. Gallagher is someone who could fetch a substantial amount of money.
That said, he will enter the final year of his contract in the summer and the two parties have not agreed on an extension yet. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.
Regardless, his desire to continue at Chelsea will come as a major blow for Tottenham, who were hoping to sign him.
