Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in recent months.
According to a report via Fichajes, Tottenham could temporarily abandon their pursuit of the 23-year-old midfielder until the summer transfer window, and they could resurrect their interest in the player next season.
The report further states that Tottenham could now ‘turn their attention’ to alternatives like Kalvin Phillips.
The 28-year-old is expected to leave Manchester City this month after struggling to hold down a regular starting spot with the Premier League giants.
Phillips needs to play regularly in order to cement his place in the England national team for the upcoming European championships as well and a move to Tottenham would be an excellent opportunity for him. Tottenham need to add more depth in the defensive midfield department and the former Leeds United midfielder would be a solid acquisition.
He has proven himself in the Premier League with Leeds in the past, and there is no doubt that he could prove to be a quality addition to Ange Postecoglou’s midfield as well. The Australian’s high intensity attacking system would be a good fit for the 28-year-old who has played in a similar system before under Marcelo Bielsa.
The player is likely to be available on loan this month and it could be an inexpensive addition for Tottenham. It will be interesting to see if North London giants can get the deal done. Apparently, Atalanta midfielder Ederson is also on their radar.
