Tottenham could renew their interest in £31m midfielder in the summer

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with a move for the former Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

The 23-year-old has been linked with Tottenham for months now but the Londoners failed to sign him during the January transfer window. Despite having a concrete interest in the player, Tottenham failed to secure an agreement with Roma who proceeded to sell the midfielder to Turkish outfit Galatasaray.

It seems that Tottenham still retain their interest in the player and they could return with their offer for him at the end of the season. As per Calciomercato, they are not the only club looking to renew their interest in the player and they will have to face competition from AC Milan as well.

Zaniolo is highly rated around Europe and he has a big future ahead of him. A move to Tottenham would certainly be a step up from Galatasaray and it remains to be seen whether the player is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Apparently, the midfielder has a €35 million (£31m) release clause in his contract and a club with Tottenham’s resources should be able to afford that.

Tottenham have a talented squad at their disposal but they will need to plug a few gaps in the side before they are capable of challenging for the league title and the Champions league.

One of the major concerns for the London club this season has been the lack of creativity from the central areas. Zaniolo’s arrival will add flair, technical ability and craft to Conte’s midfield.

Star striker Harry Kane has had to drop down and help create opportunities quite often this season and someone like Zaniolo could share that creative burden alongside him next season.

With a reliable creator behind him, Kane will be able to focus on his goal-scoring duties. Milan are an attractive destination as well and it remains to be seen where the midfielder ends up at the end of the season.

While Galatasaray will not want to sell the player anytime soon, they are powerless to stop him from leaving because of the release clause in his contract. The 23-year-old certainly has the potential to justify the €35m price tag in the long run.
