Tottenham Hotspur could be offered the chance to sign Rodrigo Riquelme at the end of the season.

Atletico Madrid are hoping to sign Cristian Romero from the London club, and they could offer the 25-year-old in a deal for the Argentine international, as per Marca (h/t SportWitness). The Spanish outfit are unwilling to pay the asking price for the defender, and they could use the Spanish attacker to sweeten the deal for Tottenham.

Romero is thought to be open to joining a big club in the summer, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. He has been linked with Real Madrid as well.

Cristian Romero could be on his way out

It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few weeks. Spurs will not want to lose a player like Romero, but they could be powerless to stop him from leaving if the player is intent on the move.

They have had a disappointing season, and they could miss out on Champions League qualification. Top players want to compete at a high level, and it would not be a surprise if Romero wants to move on.

It will be interesting to see if they are willing to accept Riquelme as part of the deal to sell Romero in the summer. The Spanish winger will be desperate to get his career back on track once again. He has been described by the Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone as a “fast, direct” attacker. Tottenham could certainly use someone with his skill set.

Riquelme has struggled for regular game time at the Spanish club, and a move to England could be ideal for him. The 25-year-old will be desperate to play more often. He is capable of operating anywhere across the front three, and his versatility will be a bonus.

It is no secret that Tottenham need more quality on the flanks, and the Spanish winger could be the ideal acquisition. He is highly talented, and regular football could bring out the best in him. He will add pace, flair, and creativity to the Tottenham attack.
