Tottenham continues to be linked with one of the “most under-rated players in the world.”

By Bruce Grove -

Ivan Rakitic has opened the door for a potential move to Tottenham after he revealed that he would be open to discussing a transfer away from Barcelona, reports Football London.

Rakitic has continued to deliver in the midfield for the Catalans, however, he has never been a darling of the club’s fans in the way that some of his teammates have been with the Nou Camp faithful.

His recent comments would come as a boost to teams who have circled around the Croatian, and the report from Football London is claiming that Tottenham is still considering him a target.

Rakitic has been a long-term target of the Lilywhites and every summer when it looked like he would finally leave Barcelona, they have been linked claims the same report.

Jose Mourinho lost Christian Eriksen in the last transfer window and the Portuguese manager would most likely target a replacement for the Dane when the transfer window reopens.

Rakitic represents the type of player that Spurs would have to sign if they want to remain competitive and show Harry Kane that he can achieve all his goals with them.

Mourinho is clearly a fan of the 32-year-old and said as quoted by Goal,

“I’ve wanted to say this for a long, long time,” the Portuguese began during an appearance on beIN Sports in March. “Rakitic is one of the most underrated players in the world.

“He is a fantastic player at every level: he does defensive work on the right side to compensate for [Lionel] Messi, he runs miles. In ball possession, he’s fantastic. He’s simple. He’s effective.”

I would not necessarily agree that signing Rakitic shows our ambition to Kane, his best days are certainly behind him. However, his experience and ability could serve the team/squad well over two seasons. His wages would not fit our structure though, bit of a sticking point.
