Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a significant summer spending spree as they aim to secure a marquee centre-forward signing.
According to the latest report from Football Insider, Spurs are targeting Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.
The North London club has made signing a top-tier centre-forward their top priority in the upcoming transfer window and are ready to allocate a substantial portion of their budget for it.
The Swedish international, Alexander Isak, who has been a standout performer for Newcastle United has emerged as a prime target.
The 24-year-old has been a formidable presence since his record-breaking transfer from Real Sociedad to Newcastle in August 2022.
He significantly improved his goal tally in the Premier League last season, netting 21 goals in 30 appearances, compared to 10 in his debut season. In all competitions, he scored an impressive 25 goals in 40 games. This takes his tally to 35 goals in 67 appearances since joining the club.
This impressive total ranked him as the third-highest goalscorer in the division, trailing only Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer.
Despite Isak’s vital role, Newcastle are under financial pressure to comply with Financial Fair Play and Profit and Sustainability Rules. As a result, they may need to raise substantial funds through player sales.
However, they highly value Isak and are keen to retain him at St. James’ Park for the next season.
The report suggests that Tottenham are ready to break their £63 million transfer record with a ‘huge’ bid for Isak.
This potential signing would be a statement move for Spurs as they aim to bolster their attacking options and fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure last season.
