“Tottenham are hoping to sign…”- Eccleshare makes encouraging Tottenham transfer claim ahead of the January window

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Tottenham correspondent for The Athletic, Charlie Eccleshare, Spurs will be looking to sign either a centre-forward or a left-winger in the upcoming January transfer window.

Tottenham have Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon out injured for a long period leaving Ange with the attacking options of Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, and Richarlison.

While Son has played upfront in most games this season, he was back playing on the left, a position he has played over the years at Spurs, with Richarlison given the nod to start upfront and Johnson on the right.

This worked great as Son tormented Trippier all game, grabbing two assitss and a goal. Meanwhile, Richarlison who has struggled since joining Spurs had one of his best games for Spurs as he scored a brace.

The tweak in the tactics worked wonders for Ange but is also showed just how good Son is, whether he plays upfront or on the left.

His absence in the January due to the Asian Cup games is going to be a big miss for Spurs and they are reportedly looking to sign another attacker in January to fill his void.

According to Eccleshare, Spurs will be hoping to sign either a left-sided attacker or a centre-forward in the upcoming January.

Reporting for The Athletic, he wrote:

“So does all this suggest that Son on the left and Richarlison through the middle is the way forward for Spurs? Possibly. But what it also showed was that Son is both their best centre-forward and their best left-winger — and this is why Tottenham are hoping to sign someone to play one of those positions in January, because two Son-level players is a frightening proposition.”
