Tottenham Hotspur are ready to return for the Roma defender Roger Ibanez.
A report from Roma Giallorossa claims that Tottenham ‘are back in the running’ for the Brazilian defender.
Apparently, the London club were ‘the first to ask’ for information about the 24-year-old defender a few months ago but they cooled their interest after learning of his asking price.
It seems that Roma are now prepared to let the defender leave for a fee of €25 million and Tottenham have decided to resurrect the move for him.
Tottenham conceded 63 goals in the league last season and they will have to improve in that department if they want to get back into the Champions League.
Ibanez could certainly improve them defensively and he could be a quality partner for Cristian Romero. The report adds that Davinson Sanchez is expected to complete his move to Spartak Moscow soon and the likes of Joe Rodon could leave the club as well.
It is no secret that Spurs need to bring in multiple defenders this summer and Ibanez would be a solid acquisition for a very reasonable price. The defender is certainly good enough to succeed in the Premier League and he could prove to be a bargain for the reported asking price.
Tottenham have been linked with Edmond Tapsoba as well and it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can pull off a deal to sign both players.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou recently confirmed that the club will try to sign a central defender and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
