Tottenham Hotspur have agreed personal terms with Brentford ace Ivan Toney over a move to North London.
Ange Postecoglou is keen on taking the next step at Tottenham and he feels a proven number nine could help their cause. They are interested in the services of Ivan Toney and according to a report from Football Transfers, Spurs have agreed personal terms with the Brentford star.
Toney made a return to football at the start of the year after serving a long ban. In his 17 league outings, he could only manage four goals and two assists. Despite that, he managed to find a place in Gareth Southgate’s England team for the Euros.
While the 28-year-old was struggling for form towards the end of last season, there is still a lot of interest in him because of his proven track record in the English top flight. Tottenham are the ones who are pushing hard for his signature.
The North London club did cope well with Harry Kane’s departure despite not signing a replacement. But, Postecoglou feels a world-class striker is a must as they look to push for a Champions League spot next season. Toney has been on their radar for quite a while now and they have started making moves to sign the England international.
Spurs have already agreed personal terms with the player regarding a move to the club. While he has accepted the wage offer, a lot still needs to be done as they need to strike a deal with Brentford who are looking for a fee of £65 million.
Tottenham’s initial bid worth £40 million has already been rejected and they are expected to return with a better offer. Meanwhile, the report suggests £55 million could be enough to get it over the line.
