Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for the Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso in recent months.
The London club secured a first refusal on the player when they dealt with the La Liga club over the transfer of Giovani Lo Celso. Tottenham can sign the player for €25 in the summer.
However, ABC Sevilla (h/t SportWitness) claims that there is a complication, that the Premier League club will have to deal with. Apparently, they will only be able to trigger the €25 million clause once they have secured an agreement over personal terms with the player.
Even though they have an agreement with the Spanish outfit, they need to convince the player now. Cardoso has been linked with multiple clubs and it will be interesting to see if the United States international is willing to move to the Premier League with Tottenham.
The North London outfit could use more physicality and defensive steel in the middle of the park and the 23-year-old would be the ideal acquisition for them. He has shown his quality in La Liga and there is no doubt that he has the physicality and technical attributes to do well in the Premier League as well. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can convince him to join.

The opportunity to play in the Premier League can be quite exciting for most players. Despite their struggles this season, Tottenham could be an attractive destination for the player. They have an ambitious project and a talented squad at their disposal.
It remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few months.
The player recently signed a new contract with the Spanish club until 2030, and it would not be a surprise if he turned down a move to Tottenham and decided to continue in Spain. He is clearly an important player for Real Betis and he is enjoying his time at the club.
