Tottenham ace takes to social media to post cryptic message after Conte blocks his deadline day move

By Mehdi Gokal -

Bryan Gil took to Instagram to post a cryptic message after his move from Tottenham to Valencia fell through on transfer deadline day.

Gil was heavily linked with a loan move to Valencia throughout the summer, with reports last week claiming that the winger is “closer than ever” to return to the Mestalla.

However, according to Spanish journalist Domingo Ortiz, Antonio Conte’s men have blocked the winger’s move to the La Liga club because they have not been able to find a replacement.

The Times’ Tom Allnutt also revealed that Gennaro Gattuso’s side are not happy with Spurs’ decision, as the North London club had previously told Los Che that the 21-year-old would be allowed to leave.

Not only is Valencia disappointed by Tottenham’s decision, but Gil also appears to be upset, and the winger took to social media to post a cryptic message indicating his disappointement.

‘(Levy) still dictating some of the transfers’ is perhaps a little strong. According to Conte Spence was a club signing, the club wanted him and Conte said ok. I would suggest that dictating is “Antonio, we are buying Jed whether you like it or not” Subtle but important difference.

True he was brought in by Paratici pre-Conte so why is he still here? I’m trying to stay positive but fading fast I must admit.

Winks still at the club, when’s he gonna play? 🤔

It’s lunacy, regardless of his age he doesn’t even fit into Conte’s system…

He needs to work harder to convince Tony but of course it’s easy for me to say.

Watching Haaland think about how many Harry would bag at City or elsewhere with proper service?

I should not have added, ‘at his age’ to that statement. I own that.

Cannot argue with your ‘shackled’ conclusion. It does seem like several doors were stubbornly shut.

Ah, to be 21.

You are right, of course. It’s just a little marker saying that the foliage is about to turn, fall stuff (and even Christmas decor) is about to come out, and then it is winter window. It really is bang bang in the grand scheme of things.

Expected — no, hoped for (I know, that word) — a bit more bang at the end of the window.

I think all of Kulusevski, Romero, Bentancur, Perisic, Richarlison, Bissouma can push, or at least adequately support, the starters. 4 of them probably are bona fide starters who now need to be pushed by better behind them.

Lenglet I think is a stop gap for Davies. Curious to see whether Udogie will be a Premier League capable player the following season.

The biggest disappointment for me was the Djed Spence move. Not because I am in any way unhappy with the player himself – I have no idea what the kid can do – but because the Spence deal appears to have had Levy’s fingerprints all over it. I was very happy with hearing Paratici’s name in transfer dealings, with Levy’s name not being brought up. The Spence deal sends the message, at least to me, that Levy still has not let go. The man is still dictating some of the transfers. For everyone’s sake, man, stick to the bricks and mortar and the efficient beer filling cups, and let your hired football guys do their jobs without interference.

January is not far away, and Spurs still need a lot of help to rise to the level of the elite. Further work required of the guys who know what they are doing in addressing the pitch product, both in January and in the following summer.

I think Spurs need to begin thinking about how to continue post Harry Kane and HM Son. Again, these are matters for football people. Harry Kane may not want to sign another contract. I do not think I would want to do so with Spurs at his age. The closer he gets to the end of his current contract, the more power he holds in terms of where he gets to go. I think it is unwise to put that leverage back into the hands of the club.

If Spurs can sign him to an extension, they should do it. However, my sense of logic screams that Kane does not touch an extension. Not if he wishes to move on to bigger playgrounds and more opportunity. After all, Conte is temporary. Paratici is temporary. However, Levy clings on like a dung beetle… and Kane cannot lose sight of that.

Son’s contract is not up until summer 2025, but his value is still high at age 30, both in terms of pitch production and marketability. It will not remain this high for long. 30 is somewhat of a magic number, beyond which a player’s transfer value quickly depreciates. Just something for all parties to think about. I questioned Son’s ambition when he signed his extension, and that perception has not changed. I think he was more interested in stability, in knowing his place is always there. … … which is congruent with his irritations in being subbed off in favor of a new player pushing him.

Just some thoughts.

Yes, 4 months feels a lot longer at 21. I think we all recognise that. Nice, a frustrated but talented young player shackled by Levy’s continued nonsense.

Oh but wait! What about out ‘transfer Don’, isn’t this sort of thing supposed to be not happening anymore?! 😂

Running around about playing football rather than being on the bench for the whole season you mean?

Sounds like we buggered up a deal for someone else which now leaves an unhappy young player kicking his heels rather than playing every week and developing. Another last minute Levy-lowball special? 🤔

Are you so old you’ve forgotten how long summers last at 21 yrs of age? 4 months is a lifetime at that point in life. It’s when you get older it all merges into one and seems to flash by. I’m still shocked it’s no longer 2015 and I’m only 47 🤣👍😂😪

Bryan? Hmm. Could be good, needs to build his core strength for the prem for sure. He’s hardly a streak of piss so maybe a late physical developer. Need to use it to get it though so bad for him to still be at spurs. Is there some reason no PL clubs will deal with us on loans? 20 yrs of Danny boy?

4 months is a blink of an eye at his age. Work hard, try to make an impact with your squad, and see what January holds if you still feel the same way.

The kid is young, just expressing a hint of disappointment. I honestly do not know his pitch capabilities. Hope he earns some minutes to show them.

Might be better for the lad to grow a pair and man up instead of whining on the internet about running about in sunny Spain.

It is not cryptic, it is written in Spanish. It might help if you provide an English translation.

It says:

“Sometimes an old photo makes us remember the times when we were happy and we didn’t realise it.”

See, not so cryptic.
