Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for the Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in recent months.
The 24-year-old was a target for the North London club during the January transfer window but Spurs failed to get the deal done. It seems that they remain keen on signing him at the end of the season.
According to journalist Dean Jones on GMS, they are convinced about signing the 24-year-old and they believe that he would be the dream number eight for them.
“Tottenham are absolutely convinced that he’s the kind of dream number eight that they’re after. So from a playing style, and personality on the pitch, Conor Gallagher really does fit the ethos of where they want to take this team. I’d say things that go against it at the moment are the fact that Conor Gallagher is Chelsea through and through. And that does sometimes play into whether a player would be willing to join a certain team. I’m not ruling out that he would join Tottenham, but it’s something to consider.”
It is no secret that Tottenham need to bring in a quality central midfielder who will add drive, physicality and presence to the side. Gallagher could be the ideal box-to-box midfielder for them alongside the likes of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr. His work ethic and pressing ability would be invaluable additions to the Tottenham midfield, and he seems like the ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou’s style of play.
Chelsea need to raise funds for their own signings and they could look to cash in on the player for the right price. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham can agree on a deal with their London rivals.
Ideally, Gallagher would probably want to stay at his boyhood club but the decision will be out of his hands and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Tottenham need more quality in the side if they want to compete for major trophies next season. Signing a quality central midfielder like Gallagher will certainly improve them immensely.
