“to leave Tottenham in the final days” – Fabrizio Romano shares update on 27-year-old

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon appears set to leave the club, with a potential transfer to Manchester United gaining momentum as the transfer window nears its end.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Reguilon, who is not part of manager Ange Postecoglou’s plans, is eager to return to Manchester United, where he had a brief loan stint last season. United are well aware of Reguilon’s current situation at Tottenham, and a move to Old Trafford could materialize before the transfer deadline.

Romano commented on The United Stand:

“Another player who would love to return to Manchester United is Sergio Reguilon. He was already at the club one year ago and he would be really open to returning. Man United are really aware of his situation at Tottenham and that may be an opportunity again in the final days because he has to leave Tottenham in the final days.”

Reguilon joined Tottenham in September 2020 on a five-year deal, which included a £27.5 million buy-back clause.

While he had a promising start, including a goal in a 2-1 victory against Leeds United in November 2021, his tenure in North London has been marked by inconsistency due to injuries and multiple loan spells.

Last season, Reguilon was loaned to Manchester United to provide cover for their injured left-backs, followed by a loan to Brentford in January, where he contributed four assists in 16 appearances.

Despite these stints showing some promise, his future at Tottenham remains uncertain.

With Reguilon now in the final year of his contract, a transfer to Manchester United could offer him a fresh start, while allowing Tottenham to clear space and resources for potential new signings.
