This summer could define whether Tottenham is a top-six club or a selling club.

By Bruce Grove -

Every player has a price tag, even Lionel Messi and in a pandemic when finances are so precarious, that has never been truer.

Under normal circumstances, one could say that Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are untouchable but I doubt there are many Spurs fans that feel that today.

Daniel Levy knows the blowback that will come his way if Kane is sold but he also knows that he cannot turn down a £200 million offer from a club like Man City, especially if the England captain indicates his desire to leave.

If one accepts that Kane could be sold this summer then the logical conclusion has to be that every single Tottenham player could also be sold. In better words, there is no untouchable player at the club.

Would it be a surprise to see Matt Doherty sold or Gareth Bale sent back to Spain. What about Pierre Emile Hojbjerg? What if Man Utd came in with a £80 million bid for him, would Levy say no?

Son would be sold for a tasty fee simply because of his contract situation. I could go on, I could pick on other new signings or fan favourites but as things stand today, absolutely no one is certain to stay at the Tottenham stadium come the summer.

I know that can be said about most players at most clubs but in the real world, certain players cannot be sold for fear of the backlash it would generate. They are the untouchables and sadly, Tottenham does not have any.

Unless ridiculous fees are offered up then the chances of Man Utd selling Bruno have to be close to zero, Man City with say Phil Foden, Arsenal with Bukayo Saka, Liverpool with Trent Alexander and so on.

On paper every player has a price tag, in reality, almost all elite clubs have players that are priceless and there is an argument that you cannot be classed as an elite club unless you have players that come into that category.

Tottenham should have at least two players like that, however, it could well be that it is those two players that end up being sold in the summer.

Not sure that would classify us as a big six club. It would certainly see us branded a selling club.

Isnt it still WHL fully developed? But the money should have been spent on the team before anything else. Will take time to feel like home. The only way for us is for ENIC to sell , but they wouldnt give a toss whether new owners would invest in team or not. Rich sheikh needed

They could also be a hell of a lot better, and indeed were until Levy shot himself in the foot for a bit of amazon prime time tv.

Especially with his dodgy ankle through being grossly overpaid. He’s like a grand national winning racehorse that keeps going lame now, due to never having decent back-up. I won’t mention who is to blame for that one…

We should have kept WHL and Poch, no brainer. WHL was the life and soul of the club and should have been extended. Poch had proved over 4 seasons what a magician he was despite Levy’s miserly lack of support.
Unfortunately the knee jerk fanboys got so carried away with the stadium and how it was proof that “we had made it”, they just didn’t think it through. As if the best stadium in Europe somehow makes you the best club in Europe. Laughable in it’s insane simplicity.

I know, I tried to avoid the farewell vids etc and footage of it all. I too haven’t been near London for years, not as far as the states but far enough and compromised enough that I couldn’t chain myself to the turnstiles. Haha.

I’ve been in the US for nearly twenty years – kept my season ticket – and I was almost in tears watching the scenes at the end of the final home game. Removed our soul and continues to prioritize everything over the team.

I was shocked of how accepted it was by some. There was quite alot of the 40+ among the lot who used to frequent this blog and they seemed to love it. I’ll never understand that.

I don’t know anyone over 40 that would have voted for a new stadium over redevelopment of WHL as Liverpool have done.

Yes, it was never about football. He’s not a fan like he says….a Tottenham fan would NEVER oversee the demolishing of WHL.

Billionaires have seen their wealth grow by nearly a quarter over a year of lockdowns.

Sadly agree. Levy and Lewis never cared for the football bit anyway.

With no fans Levy won’t even have to answer to anyone. It’s perfect for him. Ready made excuse to not do anything in the transfer window and take no flack if he sells the crown jewels. Lockdowns =dreams come true for the elite money men. Don’t let him fool you with any “difficult time” comments…it’s party time for the likes of Levy and Lewis….after all, it’s not their debt is it😶

PEH is totally unsellable.

Son and Kane were unsellable for several years, but if they want to move on after giving everything and winning nothing, they might be granted that wish, provided someone comes up with the cash. 200M for Kane is a bit delusional, 100M is probably closer to it these days.

I can always console myself that things football wise could be worse, much worse.
