Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has provided an important update on the fitness of captain Son Heung-min ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash against Manchester United.
Son, who had to be substituted during Spurs’ 3-0 win over Qarabag FK in the Europa League, is dealing with hamstring fatigue.
This has raised concerns about whether he will be available for Sunday’s key match at Old Trafford.
Postecoglou shared that the South Korean forward is keen to return to training and push for a spot in the squad, but the coaching staff will monitor his condition during the final training session before making any decisions. While optimistic, Postecoglou emphasised that they would only include Son if he is fully ready.
Aside from Son’s issue, the rest of the squad appears to be in good shape, despite the usual post-match fatigue. The manager remains hopeful that Son can recover in time, though they will give him every chance to prove his fitness before the game.
As quoted by The Standard, Postecoglou stated:
“It’s still early days from last night.
“It’s fair to say the boys are fairly tired, the boys who played. Apart from Sonny, everyone is OK. Sonny, I don’t think it’s too bad. He wants to train tomorrow. We’ll see how he goes in training tomorrow and see where we for from there.
“We’ve got another day up our sleeve to give him an extra chance.”
Tottenham are currently on a solid run of form, having secured consecutive victories in both domestic and European competitions.
As they prepare to face a Manchester United team that has drawn its last two games, Spurs will be looking to extend their unbeaten run against the Red Devils, which currently stands at three Premier League matches.
If Son is fit to return, his presence could be a crucial factor in maintaining Tottenham’s momentum as they aim to secure another positive result at Old Trafford.
