Former Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier has been in the news all day because of comments he made regarding his last season at Tottenham and an operation he needed on a groin injury.
The Mirror ran with this headline ” Kieran Trippier slams Tottenham for surgery delay that saw him miss seven Atletico games “
TeamTalk goes with “Trippier savages Tottenham over alarming injury decision“
Football365 jump on the bandwagon with “Trippier blasts Tottenham for delaying his groin surgery”
And Goal.com headline with “Atletico Madrid defender Trippier slams Tottenham for forcing him to delay surgery“
Now, those four are not the only ones to go with these sensational headlines, there are literally tens of headlines from almost every sports new outlet trumpeting the same rubbish.
Before I get on to the fans reaction, let’s look at what Trippier actually said and this quote was taken from the Mirror and you have read what their headline was.
“But I struggled for months with my groin and pelvis and I eventually had surgery just after the winter break in Spain in January.
“Because of the timing of the break and the operation I was only out for a few weeks and now I feel so much better.
“I should have had it last season at Spurs but people didn’t want me to have it then. I had so many issues with the last season there and about the way I performed and struggled with injuries.
“It got to a point where I had to have surgery this season and really I should have had it done last season.
“But there were so many important games… I don’t really want to go into it.”
So, the very first thing one can see is that Trippier does not slam, blast, savage Tottenham in any form, all he says is that “I should have had it last season at Spurs but people didn’t want me to have it then”
He also says ” But there were so many important games. ” and admits that he actually had the surgery last January, not last summer after he left Spurs, a good five-six months later.
Those comments from Trippier were just stating the facts, he in no way attacked anyone for the delay but that would spoil a juicy headline wouldn’t it?
Let’s have a quick look at what some of the Spurs fans have had to say about the Mirror headline in particular.
Read the article pal they’ve baited you with a nonsense headline

No he didn't, just another BS mirror headline
— Nathan (@yuicjsenoj) May 31, 2020
He doesn't. Saved you clicking.
— Corbit (@Corbit_THFC) May 31, 2020
Don't be fooled by the bullshit headline. He said he should've had it last season but there were too many important games (like the CL run to the final!). So he is hardly slamming spurs, more just explaining why it was delayed. Slow news day clearly

And the media have the nerve to question why Haaland gave some short answers. A player could talk for 45 minutes, say 1 tiny thing and have it misinterpreted for a sensationalist headline and clicks

Its right but nothing new. While people continue to click on the headline that grabs them, they’ll continue to write them.
It would be good though if there was more reaction and slating of the writers and sites for such poor journalism/reporting/what ever, but they don’t care just as long as you click, job done..!
We covered the story with two different authors – giving two opinions – maybe have a sit down and a glass of water, dear.
And The BoyHotspur Blog went with…😂
