As the summer transfer window approaches, Tottenham Hotspur’s right-back Emerson Royal finds his future at the club shrouded in uncertainty.
Rumours have circulated that Spurs are actively seeking to offload at least seven players during the summer, with Emerson now a prominent name on the potential outgoing list.
Despite his ability to serve as a versatile squad player, filling in across the backline when needed, Emerson has not been a primary choice for Spurs’ manager Ange Postecoglou this season.
The 25-year-old former Barcelona defender has made 21 Premier League appearances, starting in 11 of them, but has struggled to secure a regular starting position.
Tottenham’s decision to seek suitors for Emerson may be influenced by his recent form.
Though he has more than two years remaining on his contract, which is set to expire in June 2026, the club appears eager to find a new right-back to provide competition for Pedro Porro, who has impressed since his arrival.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently shared insights on Emerson’s situation with GiveMeSport.
He said:
“In terms of outgoings, I expect Emerson Royal to leave because Tottenham are looking at a new right-back to have a new backup option for Pedro Porro – obviously they are super happy with Porro.
“But they want one more to create some competition and then Emerson Royal could leave. He has two years left on his contract, and there is strong interest from AC Milan.
“Milan have Emerson Royal on top of their list of a new right-back and they want to be fast in their negotiations.
“In June, already they could make it happen, but Emerson Royal has a really good chance to be one of the players leaving Tottenham in the summer.”
As the transfer window nears, the coming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Emerson Royal remains a part of Tottenham’s plans or if he embarks on a new chapter in his career, potentially with a move to Serie A giants AC Milan.
