There’s Danger Here: Plausible XI To Face Olympiacos

By The Boy -

Hopefully our Champions League football ‘experience’ is more convincing.

A bizarre comment to make about a side that made it to the final in the previous competition – but that’s the truth.

Most of Spurs’ time in Europe during the 2018/19 run was spent wincing, …and trying to solve mathematical permutations.

There are mutterings online about this game being an opportunity for Poch to mix up personnel a little, but surely it would be beyond daft not to build on Saturday’s feel good factor?

There’s another issue at play here, our hosts on Wednesday night aren’t rubbish.

Since 2009-10, Olympiakos have won five of their six European home matches against English opposition (L1), with three wins against Arsenal and one apiece against Manchester United and Burnley.

Their only defeat in this run came in a UEFA Champions League Group Stage match versus Arsenal in December 2015 (0-3)

Olympiakos have won their last five matches in European competition (all qualifiers); they have never won six consecutive such matches in their history, add to this they currently sit top of the Greek Super League after three games – so this isn’t a foregone conclusion.

I agree, send out our best side and win. We’re not at the stage in the season where players need resting. They need games to reach their best. Early cup rounds against minnows are the games to change it round a little. We’re playing against good quality opponents, we need to respect them.

Some good odds on away sides in CL later on BT sports. Lille away and Genk away both 51 ish….expect the usual dodgey shite.

I will actually be happy with a draw as their fans really are an extra man. It’s going to be wild, loud and crazy, but if we can keep our heads, stay focussed we may just sneak away with a victory. Would have Moura coming on too at some stage and where’s NDombele?

Nothing is a foregone conclusion with this lot. They have the ability to win. If they are hungry enough for it is another story.

I expect Olympiakos to go hammer and tongs for the 1st 15 minutes so starting with Alderweireld and Verts is a must. I think we can rest a few and still have a strong team – Ali, Lucas, NDombele and Davies in for Lamela, No like Chicken Badge 2.0, Winks and Rose.
