“there’s a massive amount of interest” – Spurs summer signing linked with a surprise move to Premier League club

By Mehdi Gokal -

Wolves are showing interest in signing Tottenham’s summer signing Djed Spence.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Manager Julen Lopetegui is a big fan of the young full-back and wants to bring him to Molineux.

But he will face competition from the likes of Southampton and Brentford who are also said to be keen on signing the Spurs player.

Spence moved to the North London club in the summer for a reported £20 million, but has failed to impress Conte, playing only seven minutes of football in the league.

Antonio Conte publicly stated that the full-back was not a signing he approved, but rather a club signing.

The Italian has stuck with Emerson Royal as his first-choice right wing-back despite his below-par performances and has only replaced him with Matt Doherty since after the World Cup because according to reports, Royal had a falling out with one of the staff members.

It is now being reported that Spence will be allowed to leave on loan in the January transfer window.

This is what Ben Jacobs said about Wolves’ interest in the player:

“With Spence, there’s been a massive amount of interest. I know that at Southampton in particular, unlike when Ralph Hasenhuttl was there, Nathan Jones really likes the player. So that might be one to watch.

“And then Wolves have got a new manager too in Julen Lopetegui and he’s doing really well. He rates the player as well.”

This season, Wolves full-backs Nelson Semedo and Jonny Castro Otto have both struggled with form and they could benefit from the addition of the youngster who is eager to prove himself.

And Spence will also eager to secure consistent playing time at a Premier League team, to avoid stunting his progress and development.
