In my humble, yet expert opinion, Daniel Levy’s acquisition of José Mourinho as Spurs’ coach is the smartest thing ENIC have ever done. But I would say that, as I have a strange and twisted obsession with Tottenham winning trophies again, like they used to. Millennials look away now, but we were once known as a cup side, when we truly competed.
This return of The Boy to the EPNS screen (one for the dads) kicks off with what is hopefully a helpful summary of where we all are right now.
What we’ve witnessed this window so far has been frankly mind-bending, given the economic backdrop. Mauricio Pochettino didn’t have a global pandemic to factor in.
Mauricio Pochettino didn’t have a fully disclosed debt to operate beneath, and yet the Miracle Worker was left to swing in the breeze. Or was his demise partially of his own hands? The words within Dante’s Inferno seem apt; “Io fei gibetto a me de le mie case” I made — of my own house — my gallows place.
De Bruyne, Mahrez and Sterling really shocked me with their finishing – awful
With a lethal finisher they definitely would have got a few more goals at least
Really?
Ok
No because are a deluded khunt of the highest order, you a damn joke.
No because are a deluded khunt of the highest order, you a damn joke.
What about you taking cr*p? I dunno really, you talking cr*p I suppose. What do you want me to say? 😂
That’s a great way of looking at it. Poch had the baton and did great. Now Jose has it and he can finish the job. COYS!
Yeah what about it?
Let’s hope so, we all have our opinions but our fans deserve some good times. However they come. For me, the last four seasons were pretty remarkable after what went before. We had a little go under Arry but to be beating Real Madrid etc.. . It was flipping great, and all done on a shoestring.
C’mon Jose, take the baton and go for it now, it’s what you do innit?
Weren’t where?
What if he isn’t actually ‘chatting’ crap and you are? 🤔
Poch did well on a limited budget. Who knows what he would have done with more? It’s conjecture. I wish him well.
We now have a great manager who is being backed sensibly. This is all I care about. This season has me properly excited. I think we’re entering the start of a golden era.
What did you call Jose when he was managing the Blue Scum? Nuffink, cos you weren’t there…
So true Marbs. Arry’s footy was good generally though. Although he was only at the club because Levy got desperate… Levy has always made it up as he goes along. When it comes to football he’s a plonker basically. Worse a ‘parasite’, as HH describes him…
Without Poch Jose wouldn’t even be at the club now…
I tell you where we were, we’d won the League Cup under Ramos and Levy sold our best players the summer after with Comoli doing the deals for dross like Pav, Bent and Bentley. Ramos couldn’t work under those conditions and got sacked.
Relegation beckoned so Levy brought in Harry and let him sign as many ex players he wanted to get us out of the Sh*t. Arry did better than expected and showed what a little backing could do at Spurs. Anyway, your mate Levy sacked him too…
Spot on Marbs, Poch wanted backing and he never got it. Ok, he was a ‘company man’ and never really broke rank. A patsy yes, but I shudder to think of who else we could have had managing us though Levy’s ‘stadium building first, team second’ period. I can’t think of anyone else who could have pulled it off…
I agree, but there are expectations. I honestly think that with the backing that Jose will deliver on these.
It’s not to wish for the past, I defend Poch’s record for posterity and to keep the bar where it was for four seasons. It’s the sane thing to do, rather than to merely pine for a League Cup.
I think most of us expect to move on to greater things from here with Jose, so bring it on. Won’t find me complaining…
I loved Poch but what’s the point dwelling in the past? We have a lot to look forward to.
I agree that Poch is the past now but he set some standards over the last four years. These being;
1.Champions League qualification.
2. Operating on a low wage net spend.
3. Producing an attractive brand of football.
Jose will be judges by not only us but also the bald supremo on these points. Regardless of if you like it or not.
Jose definitely has it in him and Levy’s version of ‘backing’ him is happening. Time to stop talking and time to deliver…
I’m fine as I am thank you. Furthermore its draining not being oneself
I changed my mind and thought that I might stay up to see your childish and predictable response which inevitably includes an expletive. Do grow up, you are pathetic.
Poch worked within the conditions set out for him. As an up coming manager/coach from Saints he didn’t ever have the clout to dictate.
He had Spurs to thank for his raised profile as much as Spurs had him to thank for theirs. ‘Champions League regulars’ has a particular ring to it when looking at naming rights to a building you have £850m of debt to repay on.
Jose is a different animal entirely and if he’s backed there’s every chance he’ll do great things with us.
My point is that this doesn’t make the last guy a deadbeat, far from it. Without Poch and his staff’s work beforehand, Jose wouldn’t have even taken the Spurs job in the first place. Think about it…
We have yet to qualify for the Champions League under Jose, we have to expect this as a minimum (as Levy will). It is essential.
Fk off then. Bitter dreams
Shoo or Cha or whatever you want to call it. I am going to bed, you are a total bore. Anybody who thinks they are always right never is.
Yep. Especially with people who ain’t got a clue what’s going on. The out of touch people
Also, I have noticed another thing about your posting, apart from the irrefutable fact that you cannot bear anybody who disagrees with your point of view, you always have to have the last word.
A bit harsh saying he was winging it. He did better than most before him. Let us not forget what Poch did for us. He lacked experience and thus could not take us to the next level. Whereas Jose has the experience and the track record to bring us silverware. We now have an amazing squad to compete with any of the top teams. Everything is now set up for success!
Whatever. Shoo
I have noticed this is your normal response when you don’t like the narrative. Different levels and opinions are correct.
Cha. Different levels. Go away man.
What does that mean,” Don’t try weak out of it” mean? I have just stated that you post unadulterated bilge most of the time. I can’t be much clearer than that.
I dare you to try find some time. Don’t try weak out of it. Anytime you think I’m chatting $h!t bring it. I’ll do the same
The day isn’t long enough to challenge the rubbish you post.
And whenever you think I’m chatting $h!t please challenge it. Its how I learn. Fk the grammar
I’m just challenging the crap you chat. Ain’t that allowed on blogs?
Why is it when anybody disagrees with you, they are invariably talking $hit or they are a khunt? This is meant to be a forum for Spurs fans to discuss their views and espouse their opinions. Why do I always get the impression that if anybody disagrees with your viewpoint, they are wrong?
So you didn’t e joy the 5 years poch was about ?
You might appreciate his time more in the future who knows ?
Of course it helps if your chairman supports you in the transfer window doesn’t it? Didn’t know how to improve the squad – more like wasn’t allowed to improve the squad, the squad that got to a CL final despite no backing from Levy.
Chancer and a spiv” so what if he was? The world’s full of’m. And so what about whatever he may’ve called him at a football match. Struth!!!! Stop chatting $h!t man
What you going on about now? Alan sugar did and levy sacked him. Loved him for that. 🌚
Its coming together man. The futures so so bright. I’m so blessed I’m close to it. 🌚
If you are going to judge a manager solely by his silverware, GG had a good track record, far better than Harry’s who is a chancer and a spiv. I wonder what we called Jose on the terraces when he was Chelsea manager? By the way, who appointed GG?
It looks like Poch was winging it somewhat and quite possibly didn’t know how to improve the squad, especially when he found them performing better than he had envisaged. If he was such a great management talent how come he is still out of work? The longer it goes on the less likely he will get back in the game.
Was happy when Jose was appointed and good to see us heading in the right direction with him too lets hope it continues.
Now is not the time to be thinking about Poch. The future is there for the taking. We have a brilliant squad with at least 3 world class players – for the first time ever in my lifetime anyway – and a brilliant coach who seems to be finally working his magic. This could be a golden period for us. Let’s enjoy it!
Hows calling that khunt in the “raincoat being disparaging? Were all of us singing that to him at the lane being so?
Is Poch a winner? We will never know until he goes to a club and wins things and proves Levy was wrong not to to back him. Until then the only silverware he has to show for himself is a fancy BBQ engraved with a line about him being a magician
Who cares now about him. My point was that arry deserves more praise than him. Arry got us into the champions league when I didn’t think we were even close. Poch kept us there yes, but we were already there. Arrys fine work.
You completely miss the point. His problem was that he didn’t complain enough which is a fault that you could lay at his door, but nevertheless, he warned the toothless board that they needed to raise their game. So when you state that most of Poch’s team are now dead wood, they wouldn’t have been if he had received the reinforcements that he requested. everybody in football takes their three pieces of silver as they do elsewhere.
But poch knew what he was walking into. You think levy wouldn’t of told him there wouldn’t be any money for signings? He took his three bits a silver so he had no right to complain really.
Poch warned the board two seasons before we reached the CL final that we needed to be “brave” in the transfer market. He was ignored. Levy said the costing of the new stadium would not impact on the club’s spending in the transfer market. He was “economique avec la actualite”. What did Harry win, if that’s how you judge a manager’s achievements? You always criticise Poch because he didn’t win anything but George Graham won a trophy, the man in the raincoat as you disparagingly describe him.
I doubt José woulda joined us if we were still at the old lane with no money you mean.
Look where we were before arry came. He did most of the ground work. Deserves more praise than poch
José knew most of the team he was inheriting was “dead food. Wasn’t gonna come out and say it though was he. He just came in and set about changing it.
I will leave you all with the thought that Poch went 517 days without a new signing. Under the circumstances, it is churlish of supporters to slag him off, considering where we were before he arrived.
I doubt morinho would ever had joined spurs if it was not for 5 years of good work from poch. But obvious levy has far more respect for morinho and levy face more equal power. And also levy had too make promises too morinho as he would never had signed just having the squad he got at first despite him saying he was so so happy with current squad.
If Aguero was playing…1-7 City 😉
Could watch Bielsa’s Leeds all day, more shots on target than City and unlucky not to win. Bringing a breath of fresh air to the PL.
Touch of class there, H, quoting Dante. Sadly our trophy cabinet of late has been a less-than-divine comedy.
Poch didn’t have the spine to play Levy properly. The only time he mentioned leaving was if he actually won the CL. Threatening to leave if you win the biggest prize in the club game is not a great incentive for your chairman to invest in you.
Mourinho by contrast would have told Levy in no uncertain terms “I don’t need to be here to be recognised as one of the greats. So, although I won’t ask you to provide the unachievable, if you don’t back me, I’m out of here. That’s the deal.”
