“The plan is to go after another” – Transfer insider reveals exciting Tottenham plans for the summer window

Transfer insider Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham’s plans to bring in a new defender this summer have not changed.

Defence is a position that Ange Postecoglou has been looking to bolster since he came in. They were linked with several centre-backs at that time and eventually managed to sign Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.

The Dutchman has been outstanding since coming in and has already established himself as a genuine signing of the season contender.

But after the club moved on several defenders over the last two transfer window who were not in Ange’s plans, they desperately needed to sign another defender and managed to sign Genoa’s Radu Dragusin who chose the North London club over Bayern Munich.

But Jones claims that Spurs are not finished strengthening their defensive line and are poised to pursue another centre-back in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Similar to their proactive approach in January, he claims Tottenham will aim to make early moves in the transfer market to secure their targets swiftly.

The journalist told GiveMeSport:

“The situation hasn’t changed, and Tottenham have always intended to sign two top-level centre-backs across 2024. They’ve got one through the door, and now, in the summer window, the plan is to go after another.

“Calafiori and Morato might be mentioned now, but the net is being cast wider than that. They’ve got some interesting options opening up to them. Still, from what I understand, they’re not committing at this stage, even though they want to make early moves in the summer transfer window similar to how they did in the winter market.”

While names like Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, Morato from Benfica, Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth, and Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton are circulating, Spurs are exploring various options beyond these players.

TBH Says:

The profile of a defender required for Ange’s style of play makes the hunt a tricky one. The ideal candidate must possess exceptional speed and technical ability to execute the high defensive line demanded by the manager’s tactics. As opponents frequently exploit gaps on the break, pace becomes a crucial attribute for Spurs’ defensive setup.
