The New Front Runner On Daniel Levy’s Managerial Shortlist Will Disappoint Some And Warm Others

By The Boy -

The mood inside Hotspur Way had been ‘up and down’ I am told, but since the loss to Dinamo Zagreb, the atmosphere has veered between comfortable and flipping awkward. The odds of José Mourinho being with us next season are entirely based upon financials and all those fans making our wish lists might need a small reality check. Take this piece as one with my blessings!

A source close to the club tells me that of all the names on Daniel Levy’s list is none other than Scott Parker. For many, I am sure this news will be met with a degree of warmth. To others, there will be considerable mention of ambition.

My belief is that after Mourinho, Levy doesn’t even need to say anything beyond the usual guff about mutual consent and the two entities not quite being fully aligned blah blah blah. The white noise of those that never bought into the appointment will be sufficient to draw a line under the matter. I’m advised that Parker would in effect be an interim with a contract – brought in with the idea of unifying the fans.

I take a view that this would be hilarious.

Beyond hilarious.

Bring it on.

Id rather something hilarious to happen than more of the turgid footy, constant digs at individual players and this idea that he is totally unable to make the competitive purely down to things out of his control. These things are working as a motivational method or are having the desired effect on the team. If Parker was an interim coach then I don’t see the situation being any worse than it currently is.

Also, you only get Harry Kane once. This club have squandered the opportunity to win with this boyhood fan legend. It will not happen again. Not in a five year rebuild or any other theory.

Winners never give up. If he is not at Spurs next season he will be with a club that will win. He will add more trophies to his CV. This club is not set up to win. This club is set up to lose semi-finals, finals and crucial league games, all whilst making money. Mourinho came to the club because after the champions league run, the top 4 finishes, the stadium and facilities, he thought Spurs were set up to win, he cannot make the impossible happen.

I think whats he’s done over two seasons now is show he’s worth a punt at a bigger club.

When I say worth a punt, thats exactly would be, a punt. Most of these choices are a punt, if you want guarantees you go for a Mourinho … oh hold on.

Why wouldn’t you take Parker, got an unfancied side promoted. Then once promoted quickly understood what the issues were playing in the prem and got them sorted. If the owners had been on board sooner then they might have stayed up (Im presuming they go down). They play decent football with un-fancied players. He could bring the centreback, theres a couple of the attacking players could help our squad, maybe even the goalie! He’s ultra professional, likeable, and seems to know whats he’s doing.

The downside is that because of his inexperience the board would treat him as a yes man. If they aren’t prepared to get Mourinho what he wants, why would they do it for Parker.

Levy has to really understand now that they cant keep blaming everything on the manager, I get that with low grade managers, but Poch and now Mourinho. They have to start looking closer to home to see the issues.

Finally, if any new manager walks through the door and gives everyone a fresh start, i’m turning off. The shit players, and the troublemakers (many sit in both brackets) have to go asap.

Why not lol, he’s likeable, does a nice presser, seems to have Fulham playing attractive football (sometimes) and seems like he cares.

If/when Jose goes 3 months from now then is there really any top class, serial winner, big name manager who would touch us with a barge pole?

No, of course not, it will 100% be someone from a smaller club who views it as their big chance to make it into the big time – take your pick, Parker, beardy from Wolves, doesn’t really matter anyway does it?

At this point, i’m actually questioning the sanity of anyone wanting to jump in How can we be an attractive proposition when it is /must be clear to most what the working arrangement and parameters are. Or is that levy’s actual skill, luring them in?

Looks like it won’t be Nagelsmann. Flick has announced he is leaving and Nagelsmann has previously said Bayern would be his dream job.

Wouldn’t the guys with that winning mentality look at our history under Levy and go elsewhere though? Our fish stinks from the head.

Levy screws every manager which is why we are rarely successful on the pitch. He never supports the manager in the transfer market and when he does he finds cheaper alternatives which goes against the manager requests. The only way we achieve anything is when Enic and Levy leaves. Jose is different to some managers, for him its about player psychology, he identifies good players with a certain mental toughness and psychology. Its massive thing for Jose. Jose would prefer a player that would run through walls for him and give 150% effort and commitment to the cause. Jose prefers this to a technically gifted super star like Pogba. When he identifies a target he isnt just looking at footballing ability hes looking for certain psychological traits that tells you what his mental attitude is like. That winning mentality isnt taught, you either have it or you dont and Jose picks targets that follow those traits so picking an alternative for some managers might be fine as long as they are good but its different to jose you cant just pick anyone that has that killer instinct that winning mentality that mental toughness. Jose studied Psychology and he uses that as part of his skillset. You have 11 players running through walls for you, giving you 150% and committed and mentally driven and focused you have a winning team. Levy brings in Joe Bloggs who hasnt those ideologies then the whole things fall apart. Thats the problem we have at Spurs some players like Kane, Son Pierre and others are playing better than ever and giving jose everything but they are being constantly let down by other members of the team that dont share that philosophy that drive that commitment. Yes Jose does wind up people but its his way of getting under your skin so you push yourself harder and harder until you achieve the level required or you throw your toys out of the plan and go sulking. Players that are committed and share that same drive and passion dont throw toys out the pram they grit their teeth they suck it up and work harder to earn the respect of their manager and at the same time becoming a better player.

He gets little here tbh, he’s a tough negotiator don’t you know, not the lack of trophies won as he’s been the one consistent over the last 20 years.

Roy Keane would be hilarious that would be great amazon all or nothing lol Personally if I had to choose someone at the moment i think I would go for Julian Nagalsmann. Hes very good young energetic plays great attacking football. I think he would be able to get us a couple of players like sabitzer upamecano, konate, nkunku. Swap with lamela, sanchez, dele, winks, aurier lol or even joachim low the germany manager

You and ES have something in common – writing something about Jose’s supposed “blamelessness” under comments that don’t actually say he is blameless. He’s not. Not that I was writing about that anyway.

My comment is about the extremely toxic environment co-created almost immediately by the media and many Spurs fans regarding Mourinho’s tenure. He was always set up to fail – now he is failing and the media, including most pundits can barely conceal their delight. I’ve seen Spurs fans say they “hope we lose the cup final, just to see Jose go”. Holy f..k! Do people really hate him that much?

If our manager should get more out of this squad, fair enough, let’s see how the next guy does. But look at the squad and tell me how many would get into a top 4 team.

Lloris, Hart, Doherty, Aurier, Tanganga, Dier, Toby, Sanchez, Rodon, Davies, Reguilon, PEH, Ndom, Sissoko, GLC, Winks, Lamela, Dele, Moura, Bergwijn, Kane, Son, Bale, Vinicius

I’d say Kane would get into any team. Son, PEH and Reguilon would probably get into most. And that is it.

Roy Keane should be brought in as a consultant. His job will be to go into the dressing room at half time with a bat and tell the useless shower that if they lose they have to individually report to his office on Monday for a “polite discussion” about bottling it. I don’t think we’d be Spursy any more. I reckon Scotty Parker would do a decent job for us. Well in the way that Tim Sherwood did a decent job for us. In that he kept the seat warm until someone better came along. I can see it happening. Has Levy written all over it. At least he won’t be as divisive as the current encumbent.

To make a statement signing in Jose, to then not back him properly is staggering. I think jose quit mentally a while back but can’t blame him for that.

yeah totally agree, hes been put in a difficult situation. He needs the time and player investment. I was hoping he would be given one more season with a proper overhaul to turn us into something special, but i cant see it unfortunately. Its a huge shame I also wonder that, if there is any truth in Enic selling spurs, was Jose brought in to help with that sale by having someone with his success, character leading the team

People were complaining (albeit a bit less) even when we were top of the table. He was never really given a fair chance – instead, some people were willing – only just, and for a time – to withhold their resentment. No appreciation for stabilising the side after Poch’s departure, when we were floundering in 14th, and bringing us to 6th, but the same people would be shouting “give him more time, it’s not his team yet” if it was literally anyone else.

Every day, you can read what some pundit or other said about Jose’s perceived negativity, different social media are full of people, especially Spurs fans, saying “just sack him already”, SkySports are trotting out article after article “Where it went wrong”, as if he’s already sacked, and talking about player-manager relationships with such outstanding characters as Paul Pogba.

But apparently, it’s Jose who brings negativity wherever he goes. Riight.

absolutely its a disgrace the way hes been treated bluddy media witch hunt fuelling this hatred towards jose especially in todays society where we are constantly talking about showing people respect whether its due to race, equality, discrimination or just being courteous. People with mental health problems harming or killing themselves due to abuse or other factors and then you see Jose getting abused or hounded constantly by professional media journalists. They should know better or be held accountable. I know what im trying to say just hope it made sense

I personally want to see Levy coming out standing by his man and showing Jose and even Kane his future ambitions and promising them and the fans large summer squad investment. Levy needs to move on players and bring in players that are going to improve the squad to eradicate all these defensive mistakes and add some drive, passion and commitment.
Right! now we know that ain’t going to happen and even though I support Jose and believe he needs time and squad investment I’m getting totally fed up of the media, the pundits, some jose’s x players and certain spurs fans who are constantly ridiculing Jose. Its just not right the constant abuse that he receives from the media and others. Ive never seen or heard a manager get treated so badly in my life. personally some of the abuse and constant hounding by the press surely cant be right. Any chance the media gets there a knife in Jose’s back. I even see Jamie Redknapp who obviously doesnt like Jose support the agenda against him. Im personally just fed up of listening and reading all this abuse its giving me a headache constant constant constant abuse, ive had enough of it. If Levy is going to sack him which is very likely just get on with it already. Harry best spurs manager ever will step in until the end of season or failing that Roy Keane would be fun

I like him, but what is the point? We might sell some players, bring in some new ones, things will look on the up before we inevitably stop short of making the decisive final step that would make us winners, things fall apart and he goes.

Scotty, if he does come in, will be just another nice facade on the business model of failure. Unless Levy changes the whole MO, the manager is almost unimportant.
