Tottenham outcast Emerson Royal is close to securing a long-awaited move to AC Milan.
The Brazilian international went down the pecking order at Tottenham after the arrival of Ange Postecoglou last summer. They do not consider Emerson to be a part of their plans moving ahead and have been looking to cash in on him throughout the summer.
AC Milan have been the leading candidate for his signature but they have encountered quite a few roadblocks. While talks did reach a standstill at one point, the Italian giants revived their interest and according to Sky Sports via MilanNews24, both clubs a very close to reaching a full agreement as ‘the choice has been made’.
The report states: “The basis of the operation is 14 million euros. They only need to be settled in bonuses, which must be between 2 and 3, to reach a total figure of 16. Bonuses linked to personal and team objectives. Once these aspects are settled there will be the final green light: here’s what’s missing. The choice has been made”.
Tottenham might not consider Emerson to be the perfect fit for their team but they do value him highly. With the two years left on his deal, they were keen on raising a decent fund from his sale. While Milan did try their best to lower Spurs’ demands, they have agreed to pay €14 million upfront along with another €2 to €3 million as bonuses to reach a total of €16 million.
The player had already agreed terms with Milan and while both clubs have an agreement on the final fee, there are still some minor details that need to be taken care of. Once personal and team-related bonuses are settled, the move will get a final green light. Spurs are on the verge of offloading him, giving Emerson the opportunity to revive his career away from London.
