For me, this simply underscores what a truly fantastic signing Tottenham have made here. None of your “building”, no “mending and make do”, just straight for the jugular, winning.
Winning isn’t a dirty word. Nor is winning the Jose way. With the right players, the Portuguese produces memorable football. Football that comes without a caveat.
Football that one can tell one’s grandchildren about, because there was a punchline that involved lifting a trophy or hurling a winner’s medal into the crowd.
Yeah but Poch had five years and it was getting appreciably worse – that’a big difference. No arguments where the real blame lies – but we are where we are – the project was dead, Poch and players totally stale – there was no turning it around.
Sir alexs early manure team 2 or 3 years in went as low as 15th only two points off relegation zone. They ended season in 11th. Fans called for his head. The board stayed loyal, he went on to manage 26 years with 38 odd trophies.. After all the stability poch gave us he deserved more time.. Maureen has never lasted four years at any club, been sacked from his last four posts… Levy screwed poch right over. Yeah poch never won anything but hes never had hundreds of millions to spend like maureen.. Im obviously spurs til i die and will always support, and i hope youre right.. But i fully expect jose to be gone in 2-3 years after winning the league cup if hes lucky.. While the man potchy will go on to bigger and better things, he will win at a big club… Hard for me to be bullish when joses stock has fallen so far. Bayern didnt want him. Ten years ago then i would have been buzzing
What I will say is United was a hard time in Jose’s life work wise by his own admission… So perhaps he was suffering and took it out in the wrong way as chatting to a friend up there for first time in a long while, he said Jose didn’t start up there hated, apparently seemed quite shy and almost humble at first. I may soften to him if people at Spurs reliably confirm he different when happier but I don’t know anyone at Spurs.
And the assistant manger Joao Sacremento, is a reeeeeely interesting choice. Highly, highly thought of.

Gotta disagree with you here Easty. I’m bullish Jose until proved otherwise. We were in a rut there was no getting out of with Poch, it would have just continued getting worse and worse as the season wore on. At least this will be fun! But seriously I think Jose has a lot to prove, his ego has been dented in recent years and there may well be one last trick left in the old pony yet, given the right circumstances and for now at least I’m of the mind that this is an marriage of convenience that could just work. Yes Levy should have backed Poch years ago when we needed just that little push to actually win and that will be a source of never ending frustration at the magnitude of opportunities squandered.. But i will give the little bald jessy this – he saw the dangers of letting Poch’s reign bleed out and he has taken swift and decisive action to make sure he doesn’t make another mistake on top of his first (not backing Poch). We are where we are is how i see it and Levy just threw a very interesting spanner into the works of how all of us saw this playing out. Would be churlish not to remain open as to how this pans out. Personally I am going to leave all my assumptions and judgements at the door and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

He’s yesterday’s man. Some people are desperately trying to scratch around for positives from all of this.
Look at the way Citeh, Liverpool and all the top sides play their football and it’s very similar to Poch on form.
Once Guardiola got the better of Maureen with that Barca side when he was at Madrid, it marked the beginning of a new era of high press, on the front foot attacking play.
The reason Maureen hasn’t been doing as well since then is because he has been superseded, left behind. He talks a good fight, mainly because he has lost none of his arrogance. An arrogance that was fully formed well over a decade ago but perceptions stick around long after the tangible reasons behind them have long faded.
Who knows, perhaps he can still get something done under the right circumstances?
My feeling is that he is a short term appointment made in desperation to try and get us into the top 4 (and perhaps a domestic trophy). I’m not convinced that he can achieve that with this group of players within the time frame of his natural cycle at a club.
Does Levy intend to back this sulking has-been more than he did Poch?
I just can’t see it working for so many reasons. Levy should have backed Poch 18 months ago snd got on with it. Now he’s sacked him at a cost of 12m and hired an interim as he had nowhere else to go. As he did after sacking Ramos and Comoll and his appointment of Redknapp.
Levy doesn’t like his managers to do too well or create a bond with the fans, he always feels threatened by it and fires them. Jol, Redknapp and now Poch.
Levy is a weird guy with either a fragile ego or a business model so stringently adhered to that callously firing good managers that have done little wrong is intrinsic to it.
I hope it fails because for Spurs to flourish ENIC have to give up the ghost and sell up.
All this talk of a ‘proven winner’ is all smoke and mirrors, it’s just Levy pretending to be ambitious again but we all know it’s just a pathetic charade…

Maureen has always been a top talker, but his teams performances in recent years have been found wanting.. At the chavs and manure he lost the players/dressing room rather quickly.. Both teams were boring to watch for me apart from diego costa…. Jose is a bit like conor mcgregor for me.. Been there, bought the tshirt, both are fascinating in interviews.. But the performance flatlined.. Still talking the talk, but can they walk the walk? I f**king hope so
Sorry. You mean actually tell you who said what it just tell you something that happened? I did on a previous blog… Well sort of because in general it was less one thing and not a general attitude. Like but speaking to them unless it was to shout at them, just generally acting like they shouldn’t dain to be in his proximity. Got told a few of the playing staff considered it worst time of their life playing for him and considered not coming in sometimes. Generally his arrogance towards every one and the lower he saw you the worse you were treated. Not been given anything more specific really, no defining moments. All I know is one of people that hated him that I know was usually so nice I used to joke farted glittery rainbow s.

I assume Levy is taking the Mick. Declares brave new world with Maurice at the helm, neglects the manager until on the pitch project inevitably collapses, the nucleus of the team are not taken care of with contracts and are on the way out, then he sacks the manager and hires a “serial winner” star manager for double the wages with just the afore mentioned collapsed squad to work with.

Gonna be a long few years. If it was just the season I wouldn’t be as worried. See the worst thing about this is how much I hope we win stuff and how much I hope he doesn’t. I can’t describe how cut up I am. I think there is potential for him to do great things for us and with us…I just wish it wasn’t him. He stands for everything I hate about modern football and the more I hear about his back room attitudes, especially to “lower grade” staff like canteen staff.
