The Argentine David Brent Confirms My Darkest Suspicions [opinion]

By The Boy -

Mauricio Pochettino’s latest interview will be a real home run with those fans who have yet to write off the emotional investment they made in the guy. Beyond the infantility of sharing this nonsense, what we have here is a 48-year-old man who is now frankly unemployable.

I realise that some people are unravelling in the midst of this lockdown, but Pochettino has completely lost the plot here and thrown his professional reputation down the waste disposal.

Soft spots for people or places you once worked at are quite normal, but you don’t lead with them. Professionals simply do not do that. José Mourinho is a professional. So when asked by the press about his former clubs, he told them using the simplest language that he worked to his best ability for however was employing him.

With Poch, we have an Argentine David Brent who can’t take a hint. The reason Brent was canned from Wernham Hogg was that he couldn’t cut it. All roles have limitations and so shouting Daniel Levy’s name at this juncture is not relevant.

Mauricio, you don’t work here any more, so stop embarrassing us and yourself and move on.

A professional would crack on, get another job and prove themselves. Pochettino is not a professional. So just what is the former gaffer? Right now he’s looking every inch a revisionist and a failure.

Maureen did go public about his lack of transfers at manure. The board didnt back him. He wanted kane, bale amongst others at first.. In his final window he wanted 5 players including maguire, varane and perisic.. Woodward blocked his transfers and brought him 52million fred. Also Lee grant and diogo dalmot… Woodward then goes and gets maguire when maureen was gone 🤔 its no wonder united are mediocre, the likes of woodward and levy spending millions is laughable. Clearly clueless about football both chairmen looking at all their recent signings… Maureen said it publicly for sure and woodward admitted it too i think.

Jose used to know but he’s clearly forgotten… 😂

Jose has never gone public about his lack of control over transfers at Utd. Poch didn’t go public over whatever he had to work with at Spurs.

Jose however remains the assertive mouthpiece in some people’s eyes but he’s never gone public. Why does Poch get criticised for doing the same?

Interestingly ed woodward spent all that money at manure, jose asked for multiple targets and in ‘levy fashion’ woodward went out and brought his own players. Maureen wanted ibra but that was about it. 500 million odd on players he didn’t want.. If I was Maureen then I would have been furious. Same as poch not being backed for us. It’s no wonder united are so poor these days.

Aye with kane injured it seemed the attack plan was long ball hoof it up to the 5ft 5inch lucas who was up top on his own. Spam and repeat. There was a whole month to get a striker in, manure and spam managed and they had multiple fit strikers already.

If it wasn’t for the virus this interview would not have taken place, so I am none plussed by it. Poch obviously has Spurs in his heart, that is nice, but is it news? It would have been more interesting to hear how he felt about the transfer windows where nothing happened, ultimately causing us to look backwards instead of forwards, but his dlsclaimer would have sorted that. I’m sure he’ll release a book telling everyone what happened in 10 years time. I can’t wait!

Best not discuss the attack eh? What attack? Moura running round like a headless chicken 40 yards from the nearest white shirt

Just as another point. I’m not a winker winking about the man. The winker is the man who once again didn’t back the man he bought in to do a job. Avb and rednapp both suffered the same, so it ain’t defending poch. Our esteemed leader has got us the 21 century George Graham appointment. A dinosaur. Who was laughed out of Manchester because of his style of football.

Once a yiddo always a yiddo ❤ pochs early days we were playing free flow attacking football, gaining identity, there was buzz and excitement…. Maureens early days we ground out a few results then everyone scratching their heads or getting angry because we park the bus and look like relegation fodder… Crucially for me right at the start poch sorted our defense out.. Maureens defense has been poor all round.

Well let’s see what happens if he goes to Newcastle first eh. Cos if and suspect when he wins something, and we are stuck with 11 men behind the ball at home to Hull, maybe then will be the time to reflect

Compromised is an understatement too. After building a team on the brink of winning the prem league. Unbeaten at the lane for a whole season he made it a fortress, Levy responds by being the first club ever not to buy anyone in a summer window. Then repeats that over the next two windows… The champions league run was miraculous, and I’m amazed he held it together as long as he did.. The fact we never won anything I have to look at the players like tintin and kane. Two cup finals and one prem title, poch gave them the platform, gave them the chance and they bottled it.

There’s nothing wrong with loving Spurs, if Poch caught the Spurs bug during his 5 seasons with us then good luck to him.

I’m not sure quite how ‘employable’ the previously and similarly unemployed Jose was before Levy panicked and gave him a contract. He blew buckets of money at Utd and left behind a disjointed and dispirited squad in his wake.

Jose is a man still living on past glories and (somewhat bizarrely) still judged on nothing more than the past, even in this fast moving world that leaves the past behind behind quicker than ever…

Time will tell, let Jose get on with all this ‘winning’ he’s obviously born to and then we can all shut up and admire it. Until then, the turgid football will have to be tolerated I take it? 😂

ENIC OUT.

You could be right and time will tell. But he did well here and he was compromised towards the end.

Nice guy indeed, but the interview sums the man up perfectly, in how his mentality and philosophy failed .

I don’t think or know that. You carry on doing so though. You seem to enjoy it anyway. We’ll never ever win anything yeah

When he says he wants to “feel what it means to win one title” with Tottenham he’s implicitly saying they still won’t have won a sod before I’m allowed back.

I think we all know he’s right.

Well, we will see, won’t we. I personally can’t see Maureen winning anything either, which may just then finally point us to the right culprit (but obviously I am not allowed to ‘shout Levy’)

I think you’re being a bit harsh on the man. He did a great job here and I wish him well for the future. He did have to go but I think he’ll learn from the mistakes he made. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did well at Newcastle.
