‘technical quality’ and ‘outstanding’ Former Spur hails Tottenham new boy

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur picked up an impressive win over Manchester United in the Premier League yesterday and former player Chris Waddle has heaped praise on Yves Bissouma for his showing against the Red Devils.

Tottenham picked up a 2-0 win at Old Trafford thanks to a goal from Pape Matar Sarr and an own goal from Lisandro Martinez.

Waddle believes that Bissouma was a key player for Tottenham in the defensive midfield and the Mali international helped protect their defence.

He said on BBC Sport: “Bissouma has been different class today. Under the previous managers, none of them wanted to play him. Today he has shown his technical quality, lacking in the finish though. But last week and this week he has been outstanding.”

The 25-year-old looked formidable in the middle of the park and he helped break up the opposition attacks time and again.

Bissouma struggled for regular football under Antonio Conte last season but it seems that the arrival of Ange Postecoglou has revitalised the midfielder.

The Australian showed his faith in the player and he was duly rewarded.

It remains to be seen whether Bissouma can build on his performance against Manchester United in the coming weeks and establish himself as an indispensable asset for the Australian manager.

Tottenham missed a presence like him in their midfield last season and Bissouma will certainly help them tighten up defensively and win the ball back more often in the midfield.

Postecoglou prefers a free-flowing attacking approach and winning the ball high after which will help them set up counter-attacking transitions. Someone like Bissouma could play a key role in setting up those transitions.
