Talks ongoing as Tottenham continue to work on a marquee deal for Premier League star

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur continue to work on a ‘marquee deal’ for Conor Gallagher, as per the latest Football Insider report.

They have already signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Radu Dragusin from Genoa this month and are now in pursuit of Chelsea’s standout midfielder.

The report claims that while Spurs have not given hopes of securing an agreement for the 23-year-old, Spurs have a considerable amount of work ahead for what appears to be a ‘complex deal’.

It adds that talks are continuing between the clubs over a potential transfer.

The North London outfit has been monitoring the Englishman since the summer transfer window, attempting to sign him on the deadline day in August. However, the deal did not materialise at that time.

But Tottenham have not abandoned the pursuit of securing the services of the Chelsea academy graduate. Recent reports strongly link the player to a potential move to Hotspur Way.

Conor Gallagher is in the last 18 months of his Chelsea contract, which is set to expire in June 2025.

Despite Chelsea putting a price on the player, Mauricio Pochettino is determined to retain Gallagher at Stamford Bridge. The manager prioritises the value he brings to the team and wants to build the team around him.

The England international has proven to be a vital player for Pochettino this season, featuring in the starting line-up for all 20 league games he has been available for. He has also been named the captain in the absence of Reece James.

Ange Postecoglou regards the 23-year-old highly and expresses a desire to have him in his squad. While the transfer fee may present a challenge for Spurs, they would not rule out luring the current captain of their London rivals.
