Tactical Autopsy: How Poch Made An Absolute Fist Of The First 50 Minutes

By The Boy -

Poch began with his wretched, proven to suck badly, Diamond Of Despair (denoted in red above).

Given how poor our results have for the last 9 months, and that this is a formation that the gaffer has preferred for 53% of his games, the jury is back in. This simply isn’t working.

What happened, is that Bayern ran riot, pulling and stretching the four players involved, so when half time came, over a third of the team were physically and mentally exhausted.

When the ref’s whistle blew to signal the start the second half, with the scores at 1-2, both sides should have come flying out the traps.

The visitors did – but Tottenham looked like Poch had made our lot spend the interval doing press-ups.

Let’s look at where Spurs really suffered, where we lost the ball. Look at that ellipse shape in red, in the Losses graphis above.

That was Bayern München making merry, stretching that Diamond of Despair, creating an incredible about of space – the size of a dog track around the middle of our park.

Harry Winks and Dele Alli were supposed to be core players. They ended up being part of the problem.

As ever, it took the Argentine 49′ minutes to abandon the diamond.

In the last 20 minutes, the gaffer threw on Eriksen, Moura and Lamela into his 442. By which time, Poch may as well come on himself.

What a mess.

if Liverpool were that good last night then they would not have let a 3-0 lead slip at home against bloody Saltzberg. The game is about defending and controlling the match, they were almost embarrassed.

Sure, Liverpool are a better team than Spurs now, look how much they’ve bloody spent! I can imagine it’s quite a lot more than Saltzberg too… lol

There’s truth in the tale somewhere, it was taken seriously by some at Tavistock and it’s bloody peculiar that to was left to run for a week, and then denied in a sweary Tweet.

The Dele Alli fake porn hub was never commented on.

First half apart from conceding the late goal I thought we were on top. That goal seemed to drain the life out of us and we retreated deeper and deeper….. Did the same against Woolwich and Olympiakos and Leics.

Picking the suspect BT matches is the key. Looking at previous seasons the groups with teams not really expected to go deep in the competition or attractive ratings wise are ripe. This year that’s the Leipzig Lyon Benfica Zenit group. Lyon 4/1 to win away tonight. I took that and its going that way so far. Fancied Inter at 4/1 too but didn’t do it. Bugger.
Also checked commentary for Lyon match…” Catastrophic error from Leipzig player let’s in goalscorer”…..so we see same things again. Looks like a may have got that pick right.

I would be shocked if Poch lasts here until January. It leaves 3 issues:
1) Will Levy/Spurs want to back Poch knowing full well his ambitions lie elsewhere
2) Will Poch really have bothered looking for players to improve us if he is looking to leave (unless he want to prove he can spend well?)
3) The club he is going to will have issues above, plus will know Poch will want his own signings.
So either Poch goes before the window opens or he goes in the summer and we have a full season with our Manager, and at least 4 first team players wanting to leave.

Some of the football Liverpool played last night was brilliant. Look at the team play for the goals they got.

Yes they conceded 3 but they where ballsy enough to win it.

Now wait until we play out next two CL games against the bum team of the group. We will be lucky to get two draws.

Mate I loathe ENIC & Levy and agree they’re a bigger problem , but I don’t buy into all this poor Poch he’s a victim , his football and tactics for the last year at least have been atrocious.
He’s been overly complicit in it all he is not blameless, plenty of players under his stewardship have gone so far backwards they’re unrecognisable to what they were 3 seasons ago when they were only supposed to get better due to being young.

Per the Guardian, first time we have conceded seven goals in a home game in our 137 year club history. Pin that up in the dressing room Poch and let it sink in. I have watched some bad Tottenham teams , year after year, and loads of players that weren’t fit to grace that shirt, but to quit on the team, on the fans, to show no fight, when every one of us fans would have busted our b#lls to wear that famous shirt, that is a new low. I hope someone shows the players the way the fans feel. You owe us big time. Now start doing the job you are so well paid to do.

H we were 2-1 down at half-time I think, when if we had quality finishing we could have been 4-2 up. You don’t take your chances you get punished, this is football for big boys. One big weakness in Poch’s tactics as you have noted is he is so slow to make changes or get subs on. Good coaches learn, adapt, Poch is so stubborn. It’s back to basics, do your job, don’t be caught out of position, if you are get back quick. Double the backs to stop threats from the flanks. Drop the high line, cover for each other, start talking, too many quiet players out there. If you can’t keep pressing drop back into banks and counter attack until you recover. Be clever, slow things down, go down injured, disrupt the opposition’s flow, manage the game, it’s not rocket science. Learn from other teams.

Without Poch and our spending levels we’d be around 7th, there is nobody else I know of out there who could work under such constraints and deliver top 4 and a great Champions League run in the same season.

The reason the problems are coming home to roost so badly this season is because Levy has failed to agree contracts and carry out the relevant transfer activity. The team is stale and unsettled because of one man, and it’s not Poch.

It’s not just about money either, it’s about being smart and active in the transfer market to freshen things up, create more competition for places to keep trying to do something to make you more competitive.

Allowing 4 key players to run their contracts down and make one signing in two years is either neglectful of one’s responsibilities or the behaviour of a useless twat. I’m going with both…

I have no idea who you’re talking about but the team need to show that was just a freak show against Bayern that won’t be repeated.

Regardless of contracts they will now have to play for pride, Poch isn’t too stressed because he hasn’t been backed properly so all this does is demonstrate to Levy what a complete fuck up he’s made of running transfers and contracts.

My only fear is if Levy doesn’t use January to genuinely demonstrate that he is going to back the manager that he will walk and Manure would take him in a heartbeat.

Come on Levy, what you got? Fuck all is my suspicion… you twat.

Ok, nowhere near as bad as what happened to us last night as a result. But for the Champions to let a 3-0 lead go at home against this year’s Champions League minnows is in terms of performance isn’t far off.

It’s Liverpool so there is law now that means you cannot be critical of them. Spurs have a few poor performances and their world is caving in. The media hate us, as a rule…

East Stand

We haven’t been playing particularly well, especially defensively so far this season.

Having said that last night was a freak result, we could have easily been 3-0 up but the main problem is losing the initiative after about 35-40 mins.

Yes, heads went down at 3-1 and it just so happened that Bayern grasped that, and everything they hit went in. Over the 90 mins 2-7 warps the reality somewhat.

However, Hugo, Rose, Verts and Toby are a very experienced bunch now. For them to concede goals like that is of particular concern…

Sessy. You have to get your mate dems at Lyon NOT to sign for united and come to us. I always liked that player. Im sure we coulda got him for £30m once. They know each others game. Would be a fantastic signing. Is he confident enough in his own ability to give poch big problems (Kane) dunno

You’re right in most of what you say, however our third signing was a 12 month late replacement for the Moose.
I don’t think he will work his previous magic and get us top 4 this season. There is too much water under the bridge this year and the damage will be too great by January which is the earliest any real change can take place.

He’s not been backed mate.

Two years ago we beat Liverpool 4-1 at home and finished above them two seasons running.

Klopp gets to refurbish his team to the tune of 250m and Poch gets nothing and one signing in two years, Liverpool are now above us. Funny that innit…

By the way, you aren’t on the ENIC payroll too are you?

Unfair to pin it on poch.
With all the analytics in today’s game teams have to evolve or other teans’ coaches will eventually find effective ways of neutralizing them. That renewal requires big money in the PL. Poch knows that as well as anybody having been debriefed on reality by slur Alex.
Spurs regression of the past year or more is down many things (masses of injuries, WC fatigue, no home ground, etc) but above all to enic’s £15m net spend in the five seasons before this summer.
Poch not only survived those enic conditions but for four consecutive seasons finished above two or more of the oligarch clubs, twice challenging for the title and reaching a CL final.

New signings have finally arrived but two of them have still to appear. He’s also having to deal with a situation where three of his first team are going to leave on a free next summer and the rest of the team know it.

Any coach would appear a busted flush after five years working for a fraudulent outfit like enic. But I think poch is far from being a busted flush and will defy football gravity yet again this year by getting top 4 despite them.

I can’t understand how Pochettino gets let off by so many of our fans and the media.
His management of his team and squad has been absolutely atrocious for the last 2 years.
He’s not learned or improved himself let alone any of his players either individually or as a team.
His 1 method he had that was successful was high energy forward press , then everyone cottoned on to it and put it into practice themselves and we have ‘adapted’ by stroking the ball around in our own half at snails pace and sitting deeper and deeper.
No wonder the attacking prowess we had looks laboured and due to the many weak links we inevitably play ourselves into trouble with opposing sides just waiting to pounce on the mistake.
Pochettino has nothing else in his locker only he , his adoring fans and the media can’t or won’t see it.
For everyone else it’s clear he’s a busted flush.

Last night was no freak result, could have been 3 up, well we weren’t and they were, that’s the difference. This garbage has been going on since the turn of the year. The freak results were in the Champions League.
