Stay Strong Jimmy: Plenty Of Love As Legend Greavsie In Hospital Again

By Joe Fish -

All-time leading goalscorer Jimmy Greaves is being treated in hospital as his battle with poor health continues, the club have confirmed.

The Tottenham and England legend was taken into a Chelmsford hospital on Tuesday. It is not thought to be related to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The 80-year-old has been confined to a wheelchair since suffering a serious stroke five years ago and and requires regular professional care.

A statement on the Spurs website read: “We can confirm that our record goalscorer Jimmy Greaves is currently being treated in hospital. We are in touch with his family and will provide further updates in due course. Everybody at the Club sends their best wishes to Jimmy and his family.”

Unsurprisingly there was an outpoor of support for Greaves on Twitter…

I am a Spurs fan because of Jimmy Greaves, so I don’t know whether to thank him or curse him. He was my dad’s idol and I’ve listened to him recount countless tales of ‘the greatest goalscorer England’s ever seen’.

Hearing news of another setback for him has hit me hard this morning, at a time when the thought of anything to do with Spurs already depresses me.

Stay strong Jimmy, stay strong. COYS.

What a player. The BBC and Sky can coo all they like about Shearer and the EPL. Greavsie retired at 31 and Shearer still got nowhere near his numbers. This behemoth of a footballer played in mud baths and made it look easy. His attitude whilst at AC Milan should be held up to the Berbatov’s of this world who down tools when they don’t get their own way. Just a shame a knighthood never came his way, but he wasn’t an Establishment figure, which is why I love him more.
