Stan Collymore says £120k-a-week star’s move to Tottenham ‘could happen’

Emiliano Martinez has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur over the last few days.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper has been outstanding for club and country over the past year and he has helped Argentina win the World Cup recently. Martinez has also been a formidable presence for Aston Villa, and his departure will certainly come as a blow to the West Midlands club.

However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the 30-year-old decided to take the next step in his career and join a club capable of winning major trophies. A move to Tottenham would undoubtedly be a step up in his career and it remains to be seen whether the north London giants can secure his services.

Tottenham have to find a quality replacement for club legend Hugo Lloris and Martinez is certainly one of the best in the league.

Lloris has been a shadow of his former self and his error-prone performances have cost Tottenham valuable points this season. The 36-year-old could still be an important squad player for Tottenham, but the London club must look to replace him as the first-choice goalkeeper.

Stan Collymore has now revealed in his column with CaughtOffside that a move to Tottenham could happen for the £120k-a-week Argentine international. The former Premier League striker has added that if Martinez does not want to continue at Villa, the West Midlands club should look to cash in on him and bring in a replacement willing to play for the club.

He said: “With Hugo Lloris nowhere near the player he once was and looking likely to leave at the end of the season, a move to Tottenham for Martinez is one that could happen. But my first point stands – if he doesn’t want to play for Villa anymore then he can go.”
