Spurs XI to face Norwich City

By Ron Carne -

Norwich City manager Dean Smith is encouraging his players to “play with a bit of freedom” and enjoy their final Premier League match, stressing the need for positivity to get through the “mourning period” that followed their early relegation.

There’s a significant financial incentive to go out with a bang against Tottenham and potentially leapfrog Watford into 19th place, though, with an estimated £2.5million difference in prize money that would be especially helpful next season; but for the Canaries, it seems the tougher the opposition, the more miserable the result.

Prediction Spurs to 4-1

Noel ‘I hate Spurs’ Gallagher? I’ve nothing against Citeh especially but I have no interest in what he thinks about football because he’s got this weird unhinged hatred of my club. What’s his beef? He’s from f*cking Manchester, it’s like us hating Citeh. Why would we even give a f*ck?

Plus, he’s been writing the same two songs over and over for the last 30 years…

Quote from Noel Gallagher who’s on the wireless about City yesterday.

“How they went from being absolutely appalling, like the worst I’ve ever seen them , to an absolute machine in the last ten minutes….”

Indeed. And therein lies the joke of entertainment inc. what are the chances relegation, top 4 and the title all went down to last match?
City played their part , taking the drama down to the very last minutes. Yawn. People really need to start thinking about what they’re watching.

We need back up keeper, one left wb, one right wb, one central defender, one central mid, one forward – that’s slightly more realistic

Davies, Sessy, Royal, Sanchez, Moura, Skipp, Kulu are ok for backup under Conte

Any trophy will be success for Spurs next season, even dropping into the ropey and winning that will do the trick for me. Conte knows how to succeed and I’d say that what he needs to do so is James Ward Prowse along with a CB and one or two wing backs. Oh and a back up striker, and a winger to replace Moura, and a back up goalie as Gollini is useless, maybe three wing backs as all Royal, Doherty, Sessegnon and Reguilon are lacking, maybe two CBs because Dier, Rodon and Sanchez are pretty poor, and maybe Ben Davies isn’t good enough for champs league and top 4 either, so just the 11 players needed including an £80m JWP to help us compete with the multi billion pound juggernauts of city and utd along with the dream-team of Liverpool and new money of Newcastle.

Certainly not holding my breath as this is still a huge job for the recruitment team, especially with the deadwood we need to move on. But who cares as we beat the Ars3 to 4th and denied them a stepping stone to the next stage of their development. Kane, Conte and the rest of our best players stay, I guess that gives us some kind of hope for next year.

The domestic cups are now nothing more than a kind of faux success for the top teams, unless you do it in tandem with something else and it’s a nice add on.

Caught only bits and pieces of the game today, but it seems we got the job done without much fuss at all. Good. Lovely to see Son get the golden boot – it’s not a famous trophy, but he deserves some sort of recognition for the season he’s had, and I’m happy he got it.

Now the real challenge starts: will Levy sanction the important deals we need and rid us of the players Conte clearly doesn’t trust? Or will we still have to listen to people telling us to trust what the Don’s cooking a week before the transfer deadline?

I think it’s clear that certain players have no future here – Winks, Gollini, Bergwijn, Lo Sellon, Ndombele, and one or two wing backs at the very least, with question marks still hanging over Sanchez and Rodon. So let’s get rid ASAP and get in fresh blood (that fox terrier striker from Ligue 1, Pau Torres for Lo Noshow and some money, Spence from Forest and Pope from Burnley would be decent shouts for starters).

Conte deserves absolute support, and I really struggle to see a way out for Levy should he again try to foist some punts on him.

Then again, maybe let’s not worry about transfers too much, as Pape Sarr is coming!

I would question though what Conte could win with us apart from the domestic cups. He doesn’t have a particularly great record in the Champions League, the furthest he’s got in European comps is to the semifinals of the Ropey.

He seems to do better domestically, particularly in the league and with Citeh and Liverpool so far ahead that’s not really a goer. I think he’ll be thinking about all this and I still find it hard to imagine him sticking with Levy if there’s a better job around elsewhere…

I’m not too worried about Europe; the CL the only European tournament that interests me. The Premiership and the CL for me are the big ones that, ideally, I would want Spurs to win, but still quite nice to win the FA Cup.

It’s as likely as him staying. He’s at the top of his profession, he’s 52 which isn’t old in management terms but having won titles recently, why would he take a step backwards in his peak years? I thinks it’s fairly touch and go if he stays or goes. It’s pretty much down to ENIC decide how this plays out…

Paddio

Don’t worry about Europe.
The focus for conte is purely the league, everything else is secondary and will be sacrificed if need be.
The objective for Conte is to have a first 11 and a bench of good enough quality by the end of the summer.
The CL qualification is to give less of an excuses for players to give in a transfer negotiation.

Sonificent

Clearly, Conte has his doubts and wants guaranteed levels of investment. As was said earlier, the scary thing is that he could leave now having enhanced his reputation whereas if he doesn’t get the required backing, he makes himself look worse. Tough conversation coming up for Danny Boy. Back him or f-off.

Oh and I think that if 2 strikers have an equal number of goals at the end of the season, the golden boot should go to the one who scored the fewest penalties, and if their still equal, fewest number of shots.

Well done Sonny.

No, ironically, Arsenal now should have a much better chance of winning European silverware than us next season by participating in a much weaker competition (I regard last 16 in CL as being about the equivalent of making the Europa final!)

Looks a bit to me like for this summer’s incomings to make it all the way up to ‘backing the manager’ level, relies on Levy taking a massive hit on N’belly & Low Sell so; and possibly Sanchez.

If the Itchy Parrot can bring in 3 in the BentaKer & KuluChefSki mould rather than the above mentioned players mould, who knows?

Very unlikely CL final again, anyone? The betting odds of that should dampen any silly expectation levels. I can’t be bothered to check.

If Paratici has been doing his job he would have already drawn up lists of targets by the end of February and have been quietly sounding out agents, sporting directors etc about prospects under certain scenarios.

It’s a myth that you sit down at season’s end and draw up a list.

You have that list to present to the Chairman by the end of February and that list will be: a) if top 4 is achieved; b) if Europa League is Achieved; c) if neither are achieved.

They’ve also had 4 months to sound out Villareal, Sevilla etc about players out on loan….

They did indeed! I went off for a walk with the main issues looking settled – only a matter of time until Liverpool got the winning goal that delivered the league title, I had assumed. Not sure about that! Initially, I wasn’t too impressed; first few times I watched him he wasn’t that good and looked to me as if a puff of wind would blow him over. I believe Conte has said this is one of his finest achievements; I wholeheartedly agree. With some of the dross we have and the stale squad he inherited and a boardroom that doesn’t really support a manager, I think he has done fantastically well to get us over the line into the CL; Klopp and Guardiola, in my view, wouldn’t have found it EASY to emulate this achievement.

The team itself? In my view, as a counter attacking team, we DO look like one of the best four teams in the country but when teams sit back against us and we have to force the pace we look mid table mediocrities. A really creative midfield player would make a difference but don’t hold your breath waiting for Danny boy to get us one!

It’s great what has been achieved, we’ve taken the opportunity because of the condition of the league.
71 points beats Poch’s first 2 seasons points totals as well.
If 3 or 4 of todays starters (excluding Sanchez and Royal) are on the bench instead for new signings, I’ll be pretty pleased with the window. There are always going to be the couple of under 21s picked up as well, but at the stage we are at it’s got to be first 11.
Quality over qty is key, especially
plus Conte needs an extension on his contract by August.

Let me spell it out then, invest in the team with the ambition to win rather than just compete. Do not adopt a sell-to-buy approach. Identify targets now and get the deals over the line as soon as possible. Get the new additions integrated into the squad during the summer so that when next season starts the team hit the ground running. Go for proven quality additions that can immediately add value to the existing first eleven. Look to have a squad capable of competing across all competitions next season.
