Chelsea defeat could mark the start of a nightmare period for Ange

By Mehdi Gokal -

The game against Chelsea has been nothing but a nightmare for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham.

Tottenham scored a goal in the 6th minute to take an early lead and scored again minutes later but that was ruled out.

But soon after they lost control of the game. Romero escaped a red card initially in the build up to Sterling’s disallowed goal but was sent off moments later after a rash tackle on Enzo inside the box.

Chelsea equalised from the spot but that was just the start to their nightmare. They had another goal disallowed just moments later before James Maddison and Micky van de Ven went off injured.

Second half was no better as Destiny Udogie who could have seen a red card in the first half as well was shown a second yellow with Spurs going down to 9 men.

Vicario kept Tottenham in the game for the longest of time with a series of absolutely world class saves but eventually Chelsea found the way to score thrice in the second half, Nicolas Jackson scoring all three to beat Spurs 4-1 at their home.

But the biggest blow to Ange comes in the shape of injuries to James Maddison and Micky van de Ven, both of whom were forced off in the dying minutes of the first half.

The two of them joined in the summer and have perhaps been their Tottenham’s best players.

Ange will hope the injuries are not too serious but it did not look too good, specially for the defender who may have seen his hamstring gone. If this is the case, he could be out for several weeks.

On top of the injuries, red cards to Udogie and Romero means Spurs have three of their back four out for the next game.

This is a huge blow for Tottenham and could really derail their season after such a terrific start.

The real test is for the manager now on how he navigates Spurs through this.
