Spurs’ Starting XI vs Villa

By Ron Carne -

Although the third-tier of European football provided some respite for Nuno Espírito Santo’s Tottenham Hotspur last time out (and Harry Kane), they now return to domestic action in the Premier League hoping to snap a run of three straight league defeats after a limp performance in the north London derby last week. It’s been a season of contrasts so far for Spurs after winning their first three league games by a 1-0 scoreline, as they now look to avoid their worst sequence of defeats since a run of six straight PL losses in 2004!

Also hoping to avoid consecutive league head-to-head defeats for the first time since 2008, boss Santo’s personal record against Aston Villa offers Spurs some encouragement, as he’s unbeaten in five of his seven personal head-to-heads with his opposite number Dean Smith (W3, D2, L2).

Players to watch: Son Heung-Min scored six goals and registered four assists across his last 11 PL home appearances. Meanwhile, Villa’s Danny Ings loves this head-to-head match-up, scoring against no opponent more often than he has against Spurs (six goals from ten appearances).

Skipp was excellent and played with a smile on his face looking up for it. Infectious attitude that the Deles and Tanguys should be looking at and feeling ashamed. PEH was everywhere as well. Son is just class.

One thing Nuno should realise by now is that Skipp & PEH are pivotal in midfield for us to have a chance of beating anyone half decent… I’ve said it on here numerous times before, but we have no one else in central midfield with their energy, ability to sense danger & tackle…which at this level is quite damning of our sqaud recruitment

Dier was slow to close the space down for their goal so agree with you there. I think you’re a tad harsh re Tongee; thought he had one of his most productive games for us today but still has it all to do proving himself wise. Son’s currently our best offensive player by some way. Good, and for me, unexpected result against an in form side.

I realise this is not the ideal forum for positivity, but I thought we were actually half decent there. Plenty of attacking intent, Sonny superb, Hoj and Skipp brilliant. New right back definitely has some promise.

Dier still rubbish, NDom still mostly rubbish, Harry… well I cant bring myself to say rubbish, but still not clicking.

Normal service is resumed. I know we are 1 up but it is still so underwhelming.

My commentator just said spurs are beginning to ask some questions. I’d like a full, in depth investigation for once!

I agree. Dier and Sanchez have let us down too often.

I wonder why we got him if they don’t trust him ,someone said on a previous post just start rondon and Romero every game from now on and I’m not opposed to it.

I think Rodon has been solid whenever I’ve seen him. Don’t see how we don’t go with him over that failed option.

It’s baffling. Is Nuno watching the same game I am?
