Spurs star not guaranteed to start against Villa – will undergo a late check before decision is made

By Mehdi Gokal -

Injury expert Dr. Rajpal Brar has shared an update on Spurs star Destiny Udogie ahead of the match against Aston Villa.

Udogie had withdrawn from the Italian national team due to a hamstring issue, prompting worries about his availability. But the player himself confirmed that he is going to be fine for the weekend clash.

However, Dr. Brar now suggests that the defender will still have to go through a late assessment before he is given the green signal to start.

Speaking with Tottenham News, he highlighted the challenge of assessing Udogie’s injury severity given the lack of detailed updates from the club.

He went on to stress the importance of a thorough check before granting Udogie the permission to start.

He said (via Tottenham News):

“He was out with a hamstring injury but he’s recently suggested that he’s ready to play so I expect he’s recovered fully.

“I’m not exactly sure how serious the injury was as the team have been quiet on it.

“Consequently, it is hard to put much stock into a percentage chance for return with such minimal injury information and he’ll still go through a check before being given the green signal.”

His return would be a huge boost for Spurs who are struggling with an injury crisis that has sidelined six of their regular starters.

Not only will they be without their best centre-back duo in Cristian Romero (suspended) and Micky van de Ven (injured), they will also be without their regular midfield trio.

With key midfielders like Maddison (injured) and Bissouma (suspended) unavailable and doubts over Sarr’s fitness, manager Ange faces the task of reshuffling his lineup against a strong Aston Villa side led by Unai Emery.

Tottenham’s recent form, coupled with injuries, makes the Villa game an important one. They have lost two consecutive games and will want to bounce back with a win.

But the inform Villa side will be a tough side to beat and if the Tottenham players are not at their best, they could lose their third game in a row.
